It's looking like tomorrow eve is the hottest time of this current heatwave - 35c+.

We can't put our volunteers & staff under that strain, or expect you to travel here when it's so hot.

So - we've made the decision to cancel tomorrow evenings summer night session.

Let's work out another time for solstice reflections & street nature drawing when it's cooler. And times for considering what we can do together about the climate crisis.

The next Squash Summer Night then is Thursday 30th July 6-8pm when rumour has it there'll be climate emergency stand up & swing singing!

We'll save the elderflower & rose cordial we made in community at the May summer night session.

Squash Summer Night - last Thursday's of the month.

It's forecast 33 degrees+ this Thursday. From 6-8pm, let's get the deckchairs out, cool down with an iced elderflower fizz*, listen to some gentle summer tunes, reflect together on the summer solstice through nature drawing and consider how climate change is contributing to increasing temperatures.

*we'll be tasting the elderflower & rose cordial we made in community the last summer night session , see pics.

Café & shop open for tasty summer food x Free soup (or maybe something cooler) if you need x

Squash is screening the Peoples Emergency Briefing, a film about the climate & nature crisis, this evening in collaboration with MerseyWilders. This event is now fully booked, but do check the link in our bio for more screenings in the local area or check to find out how to host your own screening.

MerseyWilders is a collective who advocate for all beings, connecting people and nature through experiences, collective learning and action. We are united in activity and habitat and the desire to bring ecological resilience and awareness back to the biosphere of the Mersey.

The importance of this film to us is understated. Our city is far behind many others, when it comes to ecological resilience and using solutions that aren’t extractive or top down. We need change, and this motive and call to action behind this film should help to catalyse that.

Name: Squash (unknown heritage Palestinian variety)
Grown by & year saved: The Palestine Local Seed Bank, West Bank, 2025
Collected by: Petra Mansour in June 2025 when she visited the Seed Bank
Packed by: Exeter Seed Bank, September 2025

Today at our annual squash planting day we'll be planting these 8 seeds gifted by our friends at our Harvest Auction last Autumn. We first connected with them when we read their statement condemning the destruction of the Seed Multiplication Unit of the Palestine Local Seed Bank in Hebron by Israeli forces on 31 July 2025. (See statement in bio).

'The destruction of any seed bank is a loss for us all.'
