"Are handmade soaps actually safe to use?"
This was one of the questions I was asked several times at Wantage Market on Saturday, and I completely understand why.
When you see a handmade product, it's natural to wonder whether it's been tested and whether it's as safe as the soaps you find in the supermarket.
The answer is yes.
In the UK, handmade soaps sold as cosmetic products must comply with strict regulations. Before they can legally be sold, every recipe must undergo a Cosmetic Product Safety Assessment (CPSR) carried out by a qualified safety assessor. Products must also meet legal labelling requirements and be registered through the UK cosmetic product notification system.
As someone who lives with eczema and asthma, this isn't just about meeting legal requirements—it's personal. I created Nesso Gifts because I wanted products I could confidently use on my own skin and in my own home.
