How to establish a small business … It’s so hard to say whether this is going in the right direction or not, different aspects take it in turns to go up and down! My stall last week did not go well in terms of sales. I met some lovely people, got some useful tips for other fairs but I didn’t make enough sales to make it worth the time involved. Which leaves me with a bit of a quandary. I had in mind to treat the stall as an experiment and stick to online sales if it didn’t work. But weirdly, despite the lack of success, I feel a bit itchy to have another crack at it (cue next obsessive journey down the rabbit warren 😆) A key piece of advice I received was to sell more than one thing which I’ve heard is true of selling on Etsy too. So I’d better think more broadly, research some more handmade ideas and aim to try again later in the year as Christmas sales start up. Meanwhile promising signs on Etsy but also a lot of juggling needed as I also need to focus on the keyword testing again as this slipped whilst I prepared for the stall

I’m half excited, half nervous. Saturday will be my first time presenting my work to the public without being able to hide behind a computer screen! I’ll be running my first Fabric Wraps by Rosie stall at the Eco-nomical Fair. I’m realising that feeling this nervous must mean I’m more invested in this than I think. Fingers crossed people like my stuff. My mum is coming so I’ll have one cheerleader 😂

I’m treating this as an experiment, if it doesn’t go well, I may stick to only selling online. I’ve tried to be careful about investing too much time or money in setting up the stall as it’s not necessarily something I’ll do again but I also want to make sure it’s a proper test of whether stuff sells by doing everything the best that I can….so …that’s been straightforward!

If you’re local to Plymouth, join the family friendly fair, lots of affordable and sustainable eco friendly activities, along with a few stalls and a second hand clothes swap. Swipe for details.

"If we wait for governments, it'll be too little, too late; if we act as individuals, it'll be too little; but if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time." On World Environment Day I’m sharing this nice little quote from fellow Devonian, I love this quote, it gives me hope and that despite confusing and bewildering decisions about how to do our best for the planet, we can turn our focus on working together in our communities, to join together to make positive change that will help nature and planet.

Awesome community action local to me:

There’s quite the online debate about fabric wrap etiquette: should it stay with the gift or return to sender? Truth is, it's entirely up to you. You can gift it to add an extra layer of delight to a present, or your loved ones might know how obsessed you are with your gift wrap collection and pass it back!

Personally, I use fabric wrap for gifts to my kids, husband, close family and friends; and traditional wrapping paper for everything else. Paper is the practical option in some cases. But as the majority of gifts I give are for children in my family and my nearest and dearest, my fabric gift wrap collection significantly reduces the amount of single-use wrapping paper I need to buy.

Whats your favourite planet-positive, penny-saving tip from your home?
