Primrose Cottage Bears

Primrose Cottage Bears Tales from the Bears of Primrose Cottage. Handmade mohair collectors' bears, made with love for you x

Primrose Cottage bears are all entirely hand sewn by myself at my home in Norfolk. They are collectors' bears and therefore not intended as toys for children under 14. I use mohair in a range of colours and finishes, with pawpads generally made from suede or suedette. The bears are fully jointed using traditional cotter pin joints, and have English glass eyes. I use a range of fillings, best quali

ty polyester stuffing for head and limbs, and glass or plastic pellets for bodies. I don't overfill the bodies and this gives the bears a nice squidgy feel. My smallest 4" bears are filled with glass pellets in their body and limbs which makes them nestle nicely in your hand. I make one of a kind and small limited editions and even though I use the same fabric and patterns for each bear in a limited edition they all turn out slightly different which makes them individual and rather special. I was inspired to sew at a young age by an aunt who was a dressmaker, and although I followed a career as a teacher I studied Needlecraft at college and have always enjoyed a variety of sewing and craft activities. I began making bears in the early 90's, attending a few craft fairs, but mainly making for myself, family and friends. Retirement gave me the time to start sewing again and use up my hoard of materials! The opening of the Swaffham Gift Emporium, and then the Norwich Gift Emporium in April 2014 was the perfect opportunity to set up a small craft business and Primrose Cottage Bears was born. My bears are for available directly from me through facebook or my Easy page (shop now link on page) for sale in Prima Rosa vintage tea rooms, Salhouse, which is currently closed for refurbishment during COVID restrictions. I am happy to make bears for special occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.

Soggy greetings dear Primrose friends! It’s been an inside sort of day here (well after a morning trip to the smokehouse to stock up on fish and seafood for the freezer!)
So, I’ve finished the first new brown bear, who has already been adopted! But I do have two more of these to make and will be starting on them soon .
In the meantime I’ve decided to go a bit colourful!
A good few years ago when I was selling my bears through the sadly no longer Norwich Gift Emporium, I made two little rainbow bears for their Pride window display. One of these was spotted and adopted by a lovely lady who has since become a dear friend (she tracked me down through my page) and I know that LP as she calls him goes everywhere with her, and was even guest of honour at her wedding a couple of years ago!
So … as June is Gay Pride month this year I’ve decided to make another two who will be numbers 11 and 12 in this open edition. Watch this space! 🌈

Greetings dear Primrose friends! As you can see I have been stitching and the first of the new brown bears is ready for ears nose and eyes! I’m having to do this slowly as I find stitching with dark thread on dark fabric quite difficult these days! But I’ll get there!
And as for the weather, we’ve had a mix of thunder storms, hail stones and bright sunshine for three days in a row now!!

Wow! Hailstones, thunder and the most gorgeous double rainbow all within 10 minutes here at the Cottage this evening! Am I the only one who ran around (on an injured ankle) outside in the rain, and upstairs and downstairs, trying to get the best shots? 🌈

Good afternoon Primrose pals! Today I caught up with some long overdue correspondence, and a few household chores … hoovered the carpets, did another load of washing … and more interestingly had a play about with pattern pieces for 7” and 9” bears on the luscious dark brown/black mohair! I think you can see how the brown underneath catches the light in this photo? In the end I decided on making three of the larger size bears as I couldn’t quite squeeze four of the 7” out. So I’ve cut those out this afternoon.
And this little Kiwi hare is looking for a home, so pop me a message if she’s waving! Details in comments as usual.

Good evening Primrose lovelies 😊 well, it’s been a showery day here so no sunny sewing, but I have finished the ears, noses, eyes and tails on these two. I’m just waiting for a decision from one of my regular adopters but at least one of these will be available for adoption.
And I seem to have been making rather a lot of bunnies and hares lately so a new bear is in order I think! I found this new piece of rather luxurious dark brown mohair with black tips when I was having my sort out recently and I think it will make up rather nicely! I haven’t decided whether to make 7” or 9” bears yet, but I’ll have a play around with the pattern pieces tomorrow and see what works best!
Oh, and I’m not sure where those couple of light hairs came from in the photo … one of these silver cats I would think but I’ll give it a good brush after I’ve made them!

June greetings dear Primrose pals! I’ve been a good girl today and only done a few light chores this morning before I started on these two … washing on the line, bird feeders and water bowls filled and plants watered.
Since then I’ve been working on these two Kiwi hares and they’re now ready for ears, noses, eyes, and of course tails, which I’m just about to start on!
And hopefully at some point a little laze in the hot tub which arrived on Friday and Mr. P set up over the weekend! An early birthday present for my 75th later in the month! We did have a session in it yesterday and it definitely helped the aches and pains! Bliss!

Greetings Primrose pals! I’m still hobbling, and have been feeling a bit sorry for myself, as we should have been going away to Cornwall on our holiday this weekend. But I’ve given myself a telling off today and I’m feeling a lot better for it!
And I have been stitching over the past couple of days and the two Kiwi hares are all ready for stuffing and jointing, so I’ll be getting on with that tomorrow! Look for the glimmers of joy! x

Hello Primrose buddies! It’s another hot day here, too hot for sunny sewing I’m afraid so I’m inside!
This Baby Berry bunny set off on her journey today, I hope she’s not too hot in her box!
I’ve done the weekend food shopping and a few light household and garden chores, and now I’m thinking about starting on a bit of stitching. I’ve decided on starting the two last Kiwi hares next so I’ll pop off and find the pieces! 🐰🐰

UPDATE: Both are now adopted for 💕🐰💕🐰💕

Morning lovelies, i finished the two Baby Berry bunnies yesterday afternoon, and one of them will be available. I’m just waiting on a decision from a lady who would like to adopt one and then I’ll update on which one is looking for a home! Details will be in comments as usual.
It seems a bit cooler out there this morning so I’m going to pop my plants in my patio pots before it gets too warm! After that I’ll decide who to make next!

Hello Primrose lovelies, how are you all coping in the heat? I must own up to being a sun worshipper, and usually say, “if the suns out, I’m out!” But it’s beaten me his time and we’ve only been outside enjoying our garden early and late over the Bank holiday this year!
Today, I’ve just come back from popping this little one in the post, and now I’m having a relax!
But I watered my pots and plants and did some stitching outside early this morning after Mr Primrose had gone to work at 7.30, but came inside when it was getting too hot.

Other than that I’ve pottered and put two loads of washing on the line, and this afternoon I’ll hopefully be finishing the two Baby Berry bunnies!

Take care lovelies and keep safe x
