Find us this Saturday at Grindleford Horticultural Show from 1.30pm with our plants and cut flowers 🌸

On Sunday we’re heading the Sheffield Flower Festival Sheffield Flower Festival at Victoria, Neepend with our plants from 10am alongside lots of florists and creatives who will be across the road at The Mowbray! We’re raising money for the wonderful Bloom Sheffield to support the amazing work they do 🙌🏻

It’s fair to say that the extreme heat and lack of rain has changed our gardening habits over recent weeks. A lot of us enjoying spending time with our hands in the soil, adding new plants into spaces or even redesigning areas of the garden. The weather has made it more challenging to do all of these things but there’s a few tips we have for anyone putting in new plants in their garden.

🌿 Ideally keep plants in the pot until the heat eases with regular watering and weekly feed.

🌱 Soak your plant before planting, either placing in a tray of water for the plant to throughly soak up or submerge the pot in water if it’s completely dried out.

🌿 Puddle the plant in by filling the planting hole with water before planting into it.

🌱 Soak the plant roots thoroughly after planting, creating a saucer in the soil can help.

🌿 Water deeply and regularly after planting until the plant gets established or we get regular rain. Water early in the morning or in the evening when the temperature is cooler.

🌱 Do a rain dance 🕺🏻💃🏻 (optional)

🍂 We recommend mulching your beds in Autumn to lock in moisture for next year and it feeds your soil.

Despite the constant heat, we have so many wonderful plants at the nursery flowering away. With consistent watering and deadheading, we are managing to keep our stock looking fantastic for customers 🙌🏻

We’ve been busy potting on plants in our peat free FertileFibre compost which is the only compost we use and sell at the nursery. We’ve also been sowing next years biennials and have already started to see germination which is very exciting!

Thank you for everyone’s continued support with the nursery, it’s not the most ideal conditions for our first season as nurserywomen but you’ve been wonderful 🌸

Arrange & Graze with Greystone Flowers at Hackney House Cafe

Friday 7th August, 6.00–8.00pm £50pp

Join us for a relaxed summer evening of flowers, food and creativity in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside at Hackney House Cafe in the picturesque village of Barlow.

We will start the workshop with a talk on growing seasonal flowers in your gardens followed by a flower arranging demonstration before we enjoy a delicious grazing-style supper lovingly prepared by . Enjoy a selection of homemade quiches, fresh seasonal salads, grazing boards and other delicious nibbles. This will then be followed by opportunity for you to create your own vase arrangement for you to take home and enjoy.

Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Today we’ve held our second Flower Club of the year and it didn’t disappoint! We created meadow arrangements which everyone really enjoyed, especially with the benefit of chicken wire to give the flower’s stability whilst also getting the airiness. A lot less fingers and thumbs trying to keep a spiral handtied bouquet together ☺️

Flower Club is also an opportunity for us all to chat over lunch about what we’re enjoying in our gardens, successes as well as some failures but with the benefit of sharing advice amongst the group.

We ended with sowing biennial seeds which included Sweet William, Foxgloves and Sweet Rocket 🌸

We always wanted Flower Club to be more than a flower arranging workshop, as it can be hard to get to know each other when your in the zone arranging. It’s been exactly as we’d hoped! Friendships, encouragement, laughter and a shared passion for flowers.

Flower Club’s annual membership sold out at the beginning of the year but we’re excited to be launching our first workshop with the wonderful Hackney House Cafe. Arrange & Graze will be an opportunity to create an arrangment as well as enjoy delicious food together! Keep an eye out for more details to book your place 🙌🏻

✨ Wedding Wednesday ✨

We had the absolute pleasure of flowering Fiona & Joshua’s wedding last year. They married at St James Church in Sheffield followed by a wedding reception at . captured their day beautifully along with .

Fiona and her family have been so supportive of our small business over the years with a big love for flowers, so it was extra special to be able to flower their wedding day 🙌🏻

We loved creating a tablescape for the round top table for maximum impact using ceramic bowls, ikebana arrangements and bud vases.

With an early summer, colourful flower palette we finished Fiona’s bouquet with a blue ribbon that matched the groomsmen’s family tartan perfectly.

We’re excited to be back at Hazel Gap Barn later in the year along with the sister venue 🌸

Last month we had a visit from Kerry who featured us on her blog for British Flowers Week! Her wonderful blog is linked in our bio and we were blown away by how she captured our journey so perfectly.

It was a great opportunity to talk with Kerry about our own experience of having freelance florists this year as our business has grown. Whether it’s on the day set up, cutting and conditioning or creating floral arrangements, we’ve loved having freelance help on those busier weeks. Sharing a passion for flowers and getting to work with fantastic florists to create floral magic for our wedding couples!

We also spoke about growing and working with British flowers. With British wholesalers and flower hubs as well as individual growers selling directly, we can see positive changes in the market. We’ve also seen how valuable freelance florists are when it comes to growing and cutting flowers too.

Kerry has created a platform to connect wonderful freelance florists and floral businesses as well as building a community. Her blog has a wealth of advice and information, a great read for any florist and flower lover 🌸

Today is the start of British Flowers Week and we’re going to be celebrating British flowers on our social media all week!

It’s the perfect time to share some of our locally grown flowers from this season so far! Celebrating every beautiful stem, even the ones we can’t pick yet as the plants aren’t established enough and seeing our customers enjoying them too.

It’s fair to say that just one stem can transform a bridal bouquet especially when it’s a butterfly ranunculus or Icelandic poppy.

We are super excited to expand our capacity to grow cut flowers at the nursery as well as the flower farm. It does feel like we have another year juggling the building of the infrastructure with growing flowers but we are trying to be kind to ourselves.

We can’t wait to share more with you these week behind the scenes and also how we use British flowers!

We are absolutely thrilled with our new staging from which has transformed this area of our nursery! It has been perfectly timed with our dahlias and more tender plants coming out the polytunnels.

Our shelving perfectly fits our annual and perennial plants in 9cm pots which is a cost effective way to buy your plants to put straight into the garden.

We have to keep reminding ourselves we’ve only had the nursery 2 months and it will take time to put all our plans into place, but it’s very exciting! It already feels like home and it’s safe to say we have no regrets taking it on 🙌🏻

We’re open to the public Thursday to Sunday, 10-4 every week so come see us and check out what we’ve been up to!

It’s Dahlia time!! Our dahlias will be out on sale next Thursday (21st May) after the last frost date. We have over 600 dahlia plants for sale with 63 varieties to choose from!

They are a firm favourite flower for us, both in our gardens and as a cut flower 🌸

If you would like to take a look at what varieties we have available, we have a brochure available for you to look through at the nursery and we can email it over on request. You can pre-order to reserve your dahlias to avoid disappointment.
