Choosing books with children does not need to feel complicated.

Sometimes the best support is simply giving them time to browse, notice what catches their eye and feel confident enough to choose for themselves.

On The Book Bus, we see how much easier reading feels when children can explore at their own pace, with someone nearby to encourage rather than direct.

A familiar character, a funny cover or a story they keep hold of for the rest of the day can all be enough to get reading started.
That small moment of choice matters.

Because when reading feels relaxed, affordable and easy to enjoy, children are far more likely to come back to it.

Before the first book is opened, before the first page is turned, something important happens...

A child gets to choose.
Not from a reading list.
Not from an assignment.
Just a book that catches their eye, sparks their curiosity, or simply makes them smile.

That's why we bring the Book Bus directly into schools.

Because sometimes all it takes is the right book, at the right moment, in the right hands.

One of the best parts of working in a warehouse full of books?

Finding gems like this πŸ‘€πŸ“š

This week, we spotted Little People, BIG DREAMS: Roald Dahl tucked away on the shelves.

A lovely introduction to one of the most famous storytellers of all time, and a reminder that every great story starts somewhere.
Now the important question...

🐭 Matilda
πŸ‘ James and the Giant Peach
🍫 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
πŸ‘΅ The BFG

Which one are you picking?

School visit days are our favourite kind of days πŸ“šπŸ’›

There's something special about seeing a playground turn into a bookshop for the day.

Children comparing their choices.
Friends recommending their favourite stories.
Teachers helping readers find something they'll love.

It's more than selling books.

It's about giving children the freedom to choose their next adventure.

If we could put a handful of books into every child's hands, these would be high on the list...

🐢 Dog Man – brilliant for getting children laughing and excited about reading.

🐯 The Tiger Who Came to Tea – a timeless classic that sparks imagination and conversation.

πŸ¦‰ Owl Babies – a gentle story about love, reassurance and knowing that someone is always coming back.

🌳 The Magic Faraway Tree – packed with adventure, magic and imagination.

πŸš‚ The Railway Children – a wonderful story about family, kindness and resilience.

😊 Big Feelings – helping children understand emotions in a simple, meaningful way.

A pretty strong bookshelf, if you ask us.

Which one would your child choose? πŸ‘‡πŸ“–

One of our favourite parts of the day? This view πŸšŒπŸ’¨πŸ“š

The shelves are stocked, the books are ready, and it's time to head off to meet the next group of readers.

What you don't always see are the early starts, the packing, the planning, and the team behind every visit. But moments like this remind us why it's all worth it.

Next stop: another school, another event, another chance to help a child discover a book they love πŸ’›

Planes in the sky, books on the ground βœˆοΈπŸ“š

This weekend we were at the Midland Air Festival, meeting families, sharing stories, and helping youngreaders discover their next favourite book.

While the crowds were looking up at the incredible displays overhead, we were busy helping children explore hundreds of adventures waiting on the shelves.

Because wherever families gather, we believe books should be there too.

A fantastic weekend of flying, reading, and meeting so many wonderful families.

With the weather hitting an amazing 31 degrees this week β˜€οΈπŸ“š

Don’t forget the essentials:
πŸ’§ Plenty of water
🌳 A shady spot in the garden
πŸ“– And a good book close by

There’s something quite special about a quiet reading moment on a garden blanket, while the world slows down a little ✨

This week’s warehouse picks are perfect for keeping little readers busy through half term. From creative activity books and wipe-clean learning, to stories, doodles and space adventures πŸš€

Which one would your child pick first? πŸ‘‡πŸ“š

Monday mission moment πŸšŒπŸ“š

Last weekend at The Baby Show NEC, we met hundreds of parents, carers, and families all looking for the same thing… books their children will genuinely enjoy πŸ’›

Because sometimes finding the right book starts with simply being able to explore.

To pick it up. Flick through it. Laugh at the cover. Spot something unexpected.

That’s why we bring the Book Bus to events like this. To create a space where stories feel exciting, accessible, and easy to discover together ✨

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, explored the shelves, and shared part of your day with us πŸ“–
