A Little Sunday Reflection from DCH…
Sometimes when you’re busy doing the work, you don’t actually stop and realise just how much has happened in one week.
So today, we’re taking a moment to look back at just some of what has been happening at Darwen Community Helpers this week.
💚 We’ve helped people with household support packs, form filling, food and essential items, school uniform requests and interview clothing.
💚 We’ve provided emotional support and a listening ear to people who simply needed somebody to talk to.
💚 We’ve held appointments, caught up with social prescribers and continued working alongside other services to help people access the right support.
💚 Mags and I successfully delivered week five of our Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Programme, continuing to support people as they work towards positive changes in their lives.
💚 Our Community Hub has continued to provide a welcoming space for other organisations to deliver their own services, including Age UK and the Job Club. Being able to provide a space where other organisations can reach people right in the heart of our community is another important part of what we do.
💚 We held a fantastic fundraising quiz night to help support our upcoming Alton Towers trip. It was a brilliant evening that brought people together while helping towards making the trip possible.
💚 We’ve kept two shops running with the help of our amazing volunteers, while sorting donations, restocking, cleaning, organising and tackling all those behind-the-scenes jobs that people don’t always see.
🎨 We’ve made fantastic progress with our new DCH Creative Corner, our dedicated community craft space that we’re really excited to develop. We can’t wait to show you more as it comes together.
And then there’s everything else that happens behind the scenes…
Keeping our social media pages updated so people know what support and services are available. Responding to messages and enquiries. Keeping on top of emails. Liaising with organisations and professionals. Planning, organising, completing paperwork and making sure everything keeps moving forward.
💛🖤 Alongside all of that, we’ve continued making fantastic progress with Safe Steps Darwen, including holding our very first volunteer meeting as we move another step closer to launching this new service for our town.
When you actually stop and put all of that together, that is one week at DCH.
And there will be things we’ve probably forgotten because sometimes we’re so busy doing it that we don’t stop to think about everything we’ve achieved.
DCH isn’t just about our shops.
It’s practical support. It’s connection. It’s a listening ear. It’s creating opportunities. It’s bringing services together. It’s providing a safe and welcoming space. And it’s doing whatever we can, with what we have, to make a difference within our community.
None of it would be possible without our incredible volunteers, supporters, customers, donors, partner organisations and everyone who continues to stand behind DCH.
There is so much that happens behind the scenes that may never make it onto Facebook, but every little job contributes to the bigger picture.
Another busy week behind us.
Tomorrow morning, we open those doors and do it all over again. 💚
Thank you to everyone who is part of it.
