For over 3 decades, Luvians has been dedicated to providing the best of everything. As a specialist, independent drinks retailer, our philosophy is to be different from the crowd. We quickly realised that there was no point in being ordinary because there were others out there who were a lot better than us at it, so we had to be out-of-the-ordinary. The Bottle Shop in Cupar opened on Christmas Eve

1983 with only 2 – yes two! – kinds of Single Malt Whisky, Glenfiddich 8 year old and Glenmorangie 10 year old. We now stock over 800 single malt whiskies, including some of the very rarest, on our mighty “Great Wall of Luvians!"

We also offer a selection of the very finest wines from the Old and the New World and some equally fine spirits too, including an ever increasing range of gins and rums. So why not give our Aladdin's Cave a visit, where our knowledgeable and friendly staff will give you a tour of its secrets!

Drink of the Day 205 – Tapatio Reposado (500ml @ 38% abv)

A Bit of Background – Today is National Tequila Day for our friends across the pond in the US, so naturally we had to make ourselves a Tequila Highball to celebrate! Agave-based spirits have had an explosion over the last few years, with more Tequilas and Mezcals hitting the shelves year after year. Tequila is regulated by the CRT (Consejo Regulador del Tequila) a Mexican governmental body tasked with setting and implementing regulations across the tequila industry in Mexico. Tequila falls into 6 main categories: Blanco, Joven, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo and Cristalino – each of which is deserving of its own individual post, but today we’ve chosen to focus on one of the more popular styles in the store – reposado. A reposado tequila must be aged for a minimum of two months and a maximum of one year in oak barrels – this imparts the golden hue and hints of woodiness that reposado is so famous for. Reposado translates to ‘rested’, referring to the small time that the tequila is rested in oak barrels. Tapatio’s reposado has gone above the minimum requirement and has aged this Tequila for four months in ex-bourbon casks, giving a honey note with a hint of spice
Nose – hint of oak, cinnamon, pink peppercorns.
Palate – cracked black pepper, cinnamon, smooth lingering finish, hot honey.
Final Thoughts – we’ve gone for a simple Tequila highball to celebrate , paired with the Mexican Lime Soda from – but this tequila could be enjoyed as a slow (or not- so-slow) sipping spirit!

A Bit of Background - Continuing our series, we’ve decided to crack open an un-sung hero from our Rosé collection – the Pinot Noir Rosé from Villa Wolf. The head winemaker and owner of Villa Wolf is Ernst Loosen – a member of the Loosen family, who have been producing top-quality wines in Germany for over 200 years. Ernst purchased the J.L Wolf estate in the Pfalz region in 1996, which has since been renamed Villa Wolf, and are best known for producing high-quality, dry wines on the Forst and Wachenheim sites.
Nose – The bouquet opens with pleasant floral aromas – rose petals drift along the effervescence of pink lady apples, strawberries, and a twist of citrus and violets.
Palate - Freshly squeezed strawberry lime juice, green apple tang, and a hint of basil.
Final Thoughts – This deliciously drinkable Rosé is a perfect wine for sitting in a sunny garden and watching the world float by. This wine is very versatile and would work with an array of food pairings – from a classic tuna melt to cream cheese and cucumber finger sandwiches or just enjoy on its own! Pop into the shop before 10pm for a sample!

Drink of the Day 202 – Foundations Vault City (44cl @ 5% abv)

A Bit of Background – Happy Wednesday, but crucially happy 8 years of Vault City to us all! You don’t need us to sing you their praises any more, enough about them and our love for them has been said throughout the years and the plethora of posts. Today, we are trying one of the 8 beers that has been created in order to celebrate the 8 years of the brewery.
This is their mixed fermentation base beer; the foundation of every sour brewed since 2018, to which all the funky flavours, fruits or offcuts are added to. We thought this would be a fitting way to celebrate them: by highlighting the base of their much-loved beers that you often don’t get the chance to focus on. Mixed fermentation is a process by which brewers choose to use more than a single yeast strain in order to ferment a beer, resulting in a more complex range of flavours than traditional single-strain ferments. Here, they implement their unique blend of lactobacillus and saccharomyces, characteristic of their signature zesty and tart flavour profile with a subtle hoppy element. Ranking a 2 out of 5 on their sourness scale, this beer is the perfect opportunity to showcase the foundation of their brews in their stand-alone character.
Nose – Gentle sour notes with plenty of fruity esters- a gentle notice of what is to come
Palate – Creamy and rich but with a refreshing lactic tartness, zingy rather than sour. Grapefruit, lemon sherbet, sour fruit sweets, red apple skin and a hint of pineapple-y hops. A dry, easy finish completes a beer that has all the satisfying depth of flavour we expect from Vault City whilst staying super approachable and, dare we say it, crushable.
Final Thoughts – This is a beautifully crafted, excellent beer, that displays how each experimental flavour succeeds; by having a solid, drinkable base, which neither overshadows their other sours, nor gets lost in the added elements. A really fun drink and great option for any sour lover out there, and a great introduction for those looking to dip their toes into the world of Scottish sours. Happy birthday Vault City!

After the huge success of our sake & seafood pairing in May we had lots of requests to team up once again with Scottish seafood legends, the Spink family, owners of The Tailend, to host another celebration of the best of the land and the sea. Perhaps inspired by the delicious sparkling sake the top request was to focus on all things bubbly, so the Summer Sparkling Wine Spectacular was born.

We’ve teamed up with Alan McMillan of Alliance Wine (the reigning Best Drinks Importer in the UK), to select 7 fabulous bottles of fizz from around the world, from Champagne to South Africa, Cava to Moscato and all points in between. Each perfectly matched to a series of delicious tasting plates from the ultra-talented team at the Tailend.

We are delighted to announce that our latest collaboration with our near neighbour and all around Fife legend, Francis Cuthbert of Daftmill Distillery is just around the corner.

Expected in mid-March (although we hope the bottling line gods smile upon our efforts), the Daftmill 16yo Double Single for Luvians is the oldest Daftmill released to date. A vatting of two of the last casks of the 2009 winter season (hence Double Single) chosen by the Luvians team. Casks #059 & #060 were filled with spirit distilled from Optic barley from the South Fields on 29th December 2009 and matured for 16 years on the ground floor of the dunnage
warehouse, prior to bottling in February 2026.

To try and give as many people as possible the chance to take home a wee piece of Daftmill history, we have opened up pre-orders on our website today, prior to shipping/collection no later than 20th March.
