Its raining 🌧️ in Cromer!! What a welcome sound

After weeks of parched fields, frightening fires, wilting gardens and wildlife desperately needing water, tonight’s rain feels like such a relief.

And beautifully timed too — a good soaking overnight, then hopefully clearing away by morning, ready for Cromer Carnival to begin.

For once, I don’t think many of us will be complaining about the rain. Drink it in, Cromer — every drop is needed.

We’ve got a busy day at the shop today, however we are looking forward to tonight’s eclipse - are you wondering where to view it from? Cromer? I hope I’ve got my calculations correct but I checked the trajectory of the Sun last night. And this is the view from Runton Road car park at maximum eclipse time. - so I would suggest most places from number one onwards should have a clear view of the Sun if the weather behaves - East of Cromer the coast dips down from being westerly to appearing westerly - this means the potential for lamd trees etc to obsure the sun becomes more of an issue as you have also West from Cromer this becomes less of an issue, particularly from Blakeney onwards . The chroma seems a perfect observation point, especially with the pier .

THIS WEDNESDAY – THE BEST SOLAR ECLIPSE FOR NEARLY 27 YEARS

This Wednesday, 12th August, sees the most impressive solar eclipse visible from the UK since the famous eclipse of August 1999.

Here in Cromer the eclipse will begin at around 6.14pm, reaching its maximum at approximately 7.10pm, before ending at around 8.03pm.

At maximum, around 90% of the Sun will be covered, leaving just a thin brilliant crescent visible.

Cromer should be a great place to watch, weather permitting. At this time of the evening the Sun will be fairly low in the west-north-western sky, so choose somewhere with a good, unobstructed view towards the western horizon.

We’ve put together this chart showing how the eclipse should progress and approximately how much of the Sun will be covered.

PLEASE VIEW THE ECLIPSE SAFELY

Never look directly at the Sun, even when more than 90% of it is covered.

Use genuine ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe.

Never look at the Sun through binoculars, a telescope or camera unless it has a proper solar filter fitted to the front of the equipment.

Another safe way to enjoy the eclipse is by using a simple pinhole projector to project an image of the Sun onto a piece of card.

Fingers crossed for clear skies over Cromer on Wednesday evening!

We’ve just unpacked a gorgeous new collection of polished Amethyst pieces from Brazil.

Every piece has been individually selected by myself. I’ve been travelling to Brazil to buy crystals for over 20 years, and have visited and know the mines these pieces come from, as well as having the pleasure of knowing some of the people who polish them.

All of these beautiful pieces were mined in the Amethyst do Sul area of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil — one of the world’s most famous Amethyst-producing regions.

A lovely collection, with each piece individually chosen for Little Gems.
