The last job before varnish - the making of the ebony tail saddle which protects the instrument edge from damage from the tailgut. I find it a fiddly job (no pun intended) but it must be done.

Nearly ready for varnishing, just final cleaning up to, tail saddle to fit and end pin hole to ream!

This afternoon's job, setting the neck on my latest cello. It's a precision job requiring an accurate fit and the correct elevation for the fingerboard. To set the neck angle correctly, I glue on a temporary fingerboard of Jelutong which enables accurate projection to be achieved and can be easily be removed after the instrument is varnished. Final fitting and gluing today.

Completed today. It's a ringer!!

Sound holes done. Next job fitting the cello bass bar. This job can bd done in minutes or can take a good while since the bar has to be shaped to fit the compound curve of the cello front! Tomorrow I think!!
