Round 4 of the Iconic Cup took the Clear View RC team to Cotswold Model Car Club, with drivers competing in both Formula One and Tamiya Stock classes on a warm summer race day.
In Tamiya Stock, Alex Hall made his first appearance at a national-level Iconic Cup event. Despite battling significant back pain throughout the day, Alex dug deep and completed all four qualifying rounds. Consistency was the name of the game as he continued to improve his pace and gain valuable experience racing against some of the best drivers in the series. Qualifying 53rd overall and lining up in the E Final was a solid achievement considering the circumstances, and more importantly, he left the meeting with plenty of laps, experience and a smile on his face.
The Formula One class once again provided close racing throughout qualifying, with all four Clear View RC drivers securing places in the A Final.
Ben Jones qualified 4th and continued his strong championship challenge, while Mark "Radders" Raddenbury qualified an impressive 3rd. Chris Milner lined up 6th, with Mike Hotchkins starting 11th after a difficult opening round left him with work to do during qualifying.
The A Final proved to be action-packed from start to finish. Mike produced one of the drives of the race, climbing from 11th on the grid to finish 4th, narrowly missing out on a podium position after a superb recovery drive. Ben Jones fought hard throughout the final to secure 8th place, while Chris Milner brought his F103 home in 10th.
Radders was firmly in the battle near the front of the field until contact with another car at the end of the main straight dropped him down the order. With championship points in mind and both Ben Jones and Mike Hotchkins heavily involved in the title fight, Radders showed excellent team spirit by allowing Ben through later in the race to maximise the points haul for the championship battle. It was one of those results that doesn't tell the full story of the pace he showed throughout the day.
With Ben continuing to lead the Formula One championship and Mike maintaining second place, the battle for the title remains firmly in Clear View RC hands as the series heads towards its final rounds.
A huge thank you goes to Cotswold Model Car Club and the Iconic Cup organisers for another brilliantly run event. We'll be back for the next round looking to continue the momentum. πποΈ
