A powerful reading doesn’t depend on being in the same room.

Whether you join us in-store or online, the intention remains the same: creating space to pause, reflect, and gain clarity around what’s happening in your life.

This month, Mimi will be joining us in-store on 6th, 12th, and 30th June, while Antoinette will be offering in-store readings on 26th June.

Can’t make it to the shop?

Online readings are available too. Antoinette offers Zoom sessions Monday to Friday, bringing the same thoughtful guidance, insight, and support to wherever you are.

✨ 30 & 60 minute sessions available
✨ In-person, video, and email readings
✨ Book online or in-store

Sometimes all we need is a different perspective.

June appointments are now available.

What does a good tarot reading actually look like?

This month’s question for Mimi was exactly that.
Her answer wasn’t about predictions, being performative, or telling someone what they want to hear.
For Mimi, a good reading is one where someone leaves with clarity. They understand their situation better, have something practical to reflect on, and know what they need to do next.

One thing she says in this video really stood out to me:
A good reading means she might not see that client again for six months, a year, or even longer.
Why?
Because they’ve got what they needed and they’re off living their life.

This is what we mean when we talk about ethical readers.

The client comes first.

A reading shouldn’t create dependency or leave someone feeling they need constant reassurance. It should help them better understand themselves, their circumstances, and their options.

We’ve worked hard to create a reading space that feels professional, private, welcoming, and genuinely centred around the person sitting in front of us.

This is why people come to Wax Spiritual.
Not to be impressed.
To leave with clarity.

(And yes, stay for the outtakes at the end 🤍)

An evening for exploring how easily humans can be persuaded, by people, groups, and perhaps even machines.

Tonight’s book club continues that conversation.

Discussing Cultish by Amanda Montell, an exploration of how language shapes belief, identity, and group dynamics, and collecting Love Machines by James Muldoon (), which examines the growing role of AI companions, chatbots, and digital relationships in our emotional lives.

7–8:30pm, Wax Spiritual.

Collaboration Over Competition.

One thing we both love about being independent retailers in Colchester is that no two shops are the same.

Yes, neighbouring businesses Wax Spiritual and House of Joy both sell books, but our ranges are completely different. That’s true of most independent businesses.

There will always be some crossover, but there is plenty of room for different specialities, different perspectives and different customers.

If someone comes into one of our shops looking for something we don’t have, we’re always happy to point them in the right direction. We’d rather help someone find exactly what they’re looking for than keep them searching.

Independent businesses don’t have to be in competition with one another to succeed. In fact, we’d argue that supporting one another makes all of us stronger.

A recommendation costs nothing, but it can mean everything to another independent business.

There’s room for all of us.

Wax Spiritual isn’t built on the threefold rule… we don’t separate how you treat the owner from how you treat our people. 🕯️🔥🌶️ 💀
