This year our Annual Christmas project for the children will take a different format. At this point in time it will not be possible for us to visit the families in Ukraine to deliver the programme. But, there is no way we want to let the children down. Not only do they deserve to receive the Christmas presents but they desperately need a break from the mental stress of what has surrounded them since February.
We have been working for the last few months to come up with a plan that will enable to keep to our commitment for the children. On 4th December a small team from CCLL will be travelling to Poland close to the Ukrainian border and we are going to be bringing approx. 100 children from Ukraine by coach to join us. We will accommodate the children for approx. four days to allow us to give them a variety of activities to include Christmas Parties where they will receive a stocking full of gifts that have been prepared throughout the year for the programme. There will be a visit from Santa who is travelling all the way from the North Pole especially for this event, special BBQ’s, Cinema, Pizza Making experience and craft workshops. The children will be accompanied by escorting adults/leaders and we have negotiated the hire of a facility which is normally used for weddings and other celebrations as this, whilst more expensive, was the only facility we found that could accommodate our numbers. All other possible venues are occupied by refugee families. In addition, we will then bring a further group of children who are currently refugeed within Poland and would be from the younger age group who would have been too young to travel without their parents form Ukraine. Their parents will accompany them on “day visits” to our activities. In addition, we will be visiting refugeed families in residential centres to deliver presents for children and household essentials for the whole family.
