I'm sorry but this needs to be talked about!

Chesterfield is being “regenerated” with millions of pounds of public money — new buildings, new spaces, new projects, big promises.

But small independent businesses are being taxed out of existence.

Business rates are skyrocketing.
Costs are rising.
Wages are rising.
Spending is falling.

And the people who actually make the town centre alive — the local shops, independents, family businesses — are being pushed out.

What’s the point of regeneration if there’s nothing left inside the buildings?

A regenerated town with no independent businesses isn’t a success — it’s just empty infrastructure.

Regeneration without protection for small businesses isn’t regeneration.

It’s slow destruction of the high street.

This needs to be talked about — because once the independents are gone, they’re not coming back.
