**WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY | Victorian Linen Press**

A good one from the workshop this week — and a reminder of just how much work can sit between the ‘before’ and ‘after’.

We found this Victorian linen press as part of a dark-painted pair. We knew (hoped!) that underneath all that old finish was a lovely original piece that was well worth putting the time into.

The old paint was stripped back, the piece repaired where needed and then thoroughly sanded and prepared. From there it was undercoated before receiving three top coats in a Farrow & Ball colour chosen by the customer.

The handles were changed too, giving it a much cleaner look while keeping all the character and proportions of the original Victorian piece.

Dark and tired looking→ stripped, repaired & prepared → finished for its new home.

Quite a transformation — and definitely not just a coat of paint.

Thank you for keeping us busy packing and unpacking.

🛠️ Introducing Workshop Wednesday

Every piece that leaves our workshop has a story.

From hidden repairs and clever restoration techniques to the little details most people never get to see, we'll be sharing a behind-the-scenes look at what happens before a piece reaches the showroom.

Some weeks it'll be a before & after.
Some weeks it'll be a workshop tip.
Sometimes it'll just be one of those satisfying little jobs that makes all the difference.

No gimmicks. Just 30+ years of restoring antique pine, one piece at a time.

Keep an eye out for our first Workshop Wednesday this week...

Coastal blues

Inspired by the shifting aqua hues of the ocean and vast, open seaside skies, our palette of blues brings the calming beauty of the coast into your home. From the soft, sea-green freshness of Mermaid for a Day to the deep blue of Pool Boy, evocative of a Mediterranean escape, these versatile shades capture that relaxed holiday feeling all year round.

Why not pop in and choose your favourite blue in our workshop?

We don’t get to rest though - back in tomorrow (Sat) 10-4 and Sunday by appointment via the website as usual.

A proper old English gate leg table... and one we don't see very often.

Most of these have had a hard life over the last 100+ years and, unfortunately, many just aren't sturdy enough anymore or need too much workshop time to make good so we tend not to buy them.

It has a lovely solid top, strong gate legs and opens exactly as it should, giving you three practical sizes depending on how much space you need.

📏 Dimensions:
• Height: 75cm
• Closed: 95 x 38cm (47cm overall including the folded leaves)
• One leaf open: 95 x 83cm
• Fully open: 95 x 127cm

It's currently in bare wood, so you can choose exactly how you'd like it finished. We can wax it in a natural, medium or dark finish, or paint it in any Frenchic or Farrow and Ball colour before it leaves us.

Perfect as a kitchen table, occasional dining table or a piece that can stay tucked away until you need the extra space.

£395 in bare wood
Finishing and delivery available.

If you've been looking for an honest old gate leg table that's still strong enough for everyday use, this is well worth a look.

• Decorative finishes
• Seasonal creative projects

When unpacking a piece of furniture we'd bought at auction, we discovered this beautiful London College of Music First Class Certificate from 1927, awarded to Ruth Hargreaves for her Advanced Intermediate Pianoforte Playing.

After a bit of detective work, we managed to trace Ruth's family and got in touch to ask if they'd like it returned. They were genuinely touched that we'd made the effort, but said they didn't need it to be returned.

So, after almost a century, it remains with the piece as part of its story.

It's moments like this that remind us why we love antique furniture. Every mark, every repair and, occasionally, every forgotten document tells the story of the people who lived with it long before it reached our workshop.

You never quite know what you'll find tucked away in an old drawer or hidden behind a panel—and that's part of the magic - we have found lots of strange and wonderful things over the last few decades.
