As we count down to our very first Board Games Day on Saturday 26th November, we're going to be looking at some of the games that'll be available to play on the day. The event is designed especially for newcomers to tabletop gaming, with opportunities to try out modern board games, role playing games (such as Dungeons & Dragons), and Collectable Card Games (such as Magic: The Gathering).

Our first game from the Board Game Library is CARCASSONNE! A staple of the current "golden age of board gaming" (The Guardian's words, not ours!), Carcassonne is an easy to pick up tile-laying game in which 2-5 players build up the Carcassonne region of France. As you lay tiles and assemble roads, cities, fields and abbeys you can lay claim to your work with the colourful Meeples which earn you points when a structure is completed! The game takes 45-60 minutes to play with five players, and makes many appearances in critics top ten lists. It even won the coveted Spiel des Jahres (the Oscars of board games) back in 2001, and is suitable for ages 8 and up.
