What a shame that several people have written unpleasant and rude comments on here that have nothing at all to do with bookshops. They must be the sort of people who don't want to see local businesses thrive. We are very grateful to Sam for her support; which doesn't amount to only photo opportunities, it amounts to turning up in local independents and buying books from them.

๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“•It was a pleasure to attend the drop-in in Westminster earlier this week and celebrate the incredible role independent bookshops play in supporting reading, literacy, our high streets and community life.

Weโ€™re lucky to have some fantastic indie bookshops across Chester North and Neston, including , and so many more. As we continue to mark the National Year of Reading, itโ€™s a great reminder of the difference these local gems make in helping people of all ages discover a love of books.

Let's show some love, comment below with your favourite local independent bookshop below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

It always astounds us, how many people come into a secondhand bookshop, spend 20-30 minutes looking around all the shelves, take books down, handle them, look into them, read them, sometimes read out bits to a companion, comment on the pricing, even photograph the books. Then leave without buying anything. If asked "was there something particular you came for today?" or " can I help you find something you are looking for?", they reply, oh no, we just love looking around secondhand bookshops. So, how do they think that is going to work? If you don't want to see more shops, like this one, closing: and like Aldous Books which sadly closed this weekend in Chester, you need to show your support by actually BUYING things. It's the old cliche; use it or lose it.

Buy real books!!

More evidence, if it were needed, of the tech giants' rapacious natures and their dismissive attitude to their customers.

Built-in obsolescence which you do not get from physical books (encyclopaedias aside.)

Thank to Chris Harte for the clip.

We would just like to point out that, contrary to information being given out by some charity shops in Chester, we do not collect secondhand spectacles. Once a year, we sometimes support a project in Uganda where reading glasses are taken to support a women escaping domestic violence charity. This was done in February and we will not be collecting spectacles again in the forseeable future. Please recycle your glasses through the kerbside recycling scheme.
Thank you.
