Yesterday at Chapter Two, we celebrated Dying Matters Week by hosting Amy, the occupational therapist at the Hospice of St Francis, who works in the local community helping patients make the most of their lives. Amy has a wonderful presence, and just being in her company is a boost.

In the evening, we held an event on writing a personal memoir featuring two superb speakers. Barbara Altounyan is the founder of the Charity ‘Stories For Life’ (http://www.storiesforlife.co.uk), which supports and encourages people to record their life stories. Barbara gave us some examples of how this process has transformed individuals and families by preserving wisdom and truths previously untapped.

We were also lucky to be joined by renowned memoirist Cathy Rentzenbrink, author of ‘Write It All Down’ and ‘The Last Act of Love’. Cathy talked us through how to tell our own story; she is a warm and inspiring guide who shared memorable advice.

A special thank you to Dr Lyn Jenkins of Chiltern Compass for hosting the event with his usual flair and enthusiasm. It was a special evening, enjoyed by all present.

Chiltern Compass invites you to a special Conversations event – 'A Memoir Before You Die' – at 7pm on Thursday 7th May at Chapter Two. Dr Lyn Jenkins will be in discussion with Cathy Rentzenbrink – acclaimed memoirist and author – on how to best capture your life story for family and friends.

Life moves fast. This warm, practical session will help you embrace the transformative power of writing to preserve the moments, people and turning points that helped shape you. Expect inspiring examples and a supportive space for reflection. Bring a notebook, your curiosity and the life you’ve lived.

Cathy, author of The Last Act of Love (2015) and Write It All Down (2022), will join via video link from Cornwall. The event will take place live at the bookshop with opportunity for real time audience discussion.
