The temperatures are rising, and your health is our top priority at Springfield Pharmacy! Here are 5 essential tips to help you stay safe and cool during the heat wave:

💧 Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they can dehydrate you.

🌡️ Stay Cool Indoors – Use fans, air conditioning, or visit cool public spaces like libraries or shopping centers during peak heat hours (11 AM–4 PM).

👕 Dress Light – Wear loose, light-colored clothing and a wide-brimmed hat when outside.

❗ Check on Others – Keep an eye on elderly family members, neighbors, and pets—they’re more vulnerable to heat.

🧴 Protect Your Skin – Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) every 2 hours if you’re outdoors.

Important message regarding local pharmacies.

Residents will be aware that some pharmacies in Chelmsford have had a lot of pressure on them following the action by Boots to close some smaller branches. They have been working exceptionally hard to manage the extra prescriptions.

Before the election was called I spoke with local pharmacists about potential ways to improve the system and reduce the pressure. They told me that often there is very little time between a patient getting a repeat prescription and them needing to find the medicines, especially if the drug is less common or if a bank holiday is involved.

Currently local GPs are recommended to only provide repeat prescriptions seven days before the old one runs out. This is to minimise medicine waste.

Given the local situation and the comments from pharmacists, I wrote to the Intergrated Care Board of Mid and South Essex NHS to ask them to consider relaxing the 7 day period for the GP practices near to the affected pharmacys.

Yesterday, I received a message back from the NHS to say they are looking into our suggestion, and preparing a detailed paper of option to be considered at the next meeting of Mid and Sourh Essex GP leads in a few weeks time.

I hope this will make it easier for patients, carers, GPs and pharmacies.

Separately I popped into Melbourne Pharmacy yesterday. A rumour had started circulating that they may be closing. This is not true.

Good Morning all! I have taken the unusual step of writing this statement and commenting on local Pharmacy closures as we have been contacted by numerous patients in the recent weeks and I felt the need to clarify our position and hopefully calm some nerves.

As most of you might be aware, after the recent closure of Lloyds Pharmacy in Sainsburys, Boots Torquay Rd and Sunrise Ave, will be closing in the near future. This will leave us, Springfield Pharmacy, as the only pharmacy serving the Springfield, Beaulieu and Channels Estate.

We have already taken on many patients from the Lloyds pharmacy and are gearing towards the increased service provision as Boots closes, by recruiting more staff, increasing the frequency of our free prescription delivery service and are planning a refit and new store layout to optimise our customer service provision and experience. Please bear with us during this trasitional stage as all this cannot be achieved overnight.

We will also be liasing with our local surgeries to see how we can work more efficiently together to better manage patient expectations and reduce patient waiting times for acute prescriptions. We kindly ask our patients to order their repeat prescriptions in good time to prevent running out of medication and to allow the pharmacy time after receiving the prescriptions from the surgery to get your medication ready.
