The word "Figures" in April can fill some accountants with dread.

For me it covers a lot of my recent work. I have been designing, modifying and making some of my best projects from 1:50 to 1:8 scale.

Normally only supplied in Grey resin, these photos have been selected to encourage modellers to just try and get the best from their models.

Next time, we'll look at some mechanical designs.

At the end of a year, we review what has been good, or not so good.

One major decision now is to put a hold on our website. This is not, by any means, to say we are stepping back. In fact, we are busier than ever.

The website takes a lot to keep up to date. The nature of most of the work from Dockyard Models is Custom in nature, with new fittings and figures being made weekly. The high cost of the website is not recouped from the small number of orders it generates, and we aim to keep our prices down, so a more suitable option is in the wind.

We have experimented, during the year with Facebook and Instagrem to show updates and found positive uptakes. So we aim to increase our following via these means.

We shall also be showing our products in a downloadable catalogue available on request and at our shows.

Our email: [email protected] and our contact number will still be our main contact points.

In the meantime,

We wish you all a Happy Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.

"Showing off" is defined as to "Display someone or something that is a source of pride".

We all do it at our various clubs because we are proud of our achievements. A finished model, a special paint job, a new club tee-shirt. Whatever it is, it's our source of pride.

Today's photo is me "showing off". I know I make a lot of fittings and figures so that you can be proud of your own completed creations, but I just wanted to show that I do make models myself, too.

This is a Multicat workboat to exhibit my work. Apart from the hull, everything on it is made by me or available through Dockyard Models. From Korts Nozzles and integrated Bow Thrusters, to Radar and crew. Still under construction, it will be with me at this years shows around the Southeast.

If you need bespoke fittings for your own vessel, and want to "show off", email us at [email protected], or call. The details are on our website.

Dockyard Models have added ten new fittings to their collection. Here are two of them.

First is a modern workboat anchor winch. The second is a three part modern searchlight, with the option to add LED lighting.

These are both shown at 1:32 scale. Keep coming back here for more news.

Today's post subject is "Thank You".

Thank you Brian Knight for the great review of Dockyard Models fittings and figures in his WSP Police boat article in Model Boats Magazine.

Also a big shout out to Ron at Chantry Model Boat Club for his outstanding work renovating the 15ft towboat and crane barge, and also the harbour, for which he was presented with this trophy made by Dockyard Models.

Another project was the "Knees" of a pusher type vessel. These needed to have a bow thruster, but none were available that small. No problem... design and make our own.

Here are the component parts and the finished item.

Keep an eye out for this one at the South-east shows. We're happy to talk about your needs too.

OK, It's been quiet here. But we've been busy... very busy... in fact very, very busy. Mainly with customer specific designs and builds.

Here is a crew for a Scottish "fifie" fishing vessel. These are hand painted at 1:32 scale, but will be available in their unpainted grey resin, as a crew.

Love 'em or hate 'em... There is no denying the life that figures put into a model boat.

However, a warning! You must consider scale, choice of figure, how many crew and what are they doing, to obtain that elusive realism... or you're better not doing it at all.

Here at Dockyard Models we understand and can offer advice. We design our own figures, continuously, but can also consider figures designed by skilled artists. Search and share some of our examples at www.dockyardmodels.co.uk.
