Our Book of the Week is: The Earth is still wet with my Tears by J.B. Browne.

Synopsis: Martha Sharpe is a vet. She's smart, sassy and, much to her mother's disappointment, single. Her sister is getting married at the end of the month, and Martha is her bridesmaid: as a result , she needs a "plus one" for the wedding day.
When a local farmer is killed, and the police say it's a tragic accident, Martha isn't so sure. As the reasons for the farmers death become clear, a story of love and revenge is revealed, stretching back nearly 20 years.
Meanwhile, a colleague takes his own life, and Martha feels she may be partly to blame. On top of that, she can't work out what is wrong with Katie the Jack Russel, and her owners want to put her to sleep. Alongside all of this, there is an outbreak of TB in a pedigree cattle herd to deal with.

Just over a week until our poetry reading with Kerry Darbishire and Kelly Davis in .

These two fantastic local poets spoke at the cafe last year and it was such a special evening; thought provoking words of reflection, memory, family and nature from two established poets who presented the context of their work and read so well. We expect a similarly warm and thoughtful evening as Kerry reads from her latest pamphlet 'What Love Is' and Kelly reads from her new collection 'Portrait from my Father as a Snail'.

Tickets are available online, in store and on the door ⏬️

What a fantastic night we've had with nuclear chemist talking about the potential future of nuclear energy as our planet's safest and most sustainable energy source. Tim uses UN data to argue the case incredibly convincingly and also negotiates the pitfalls of renewable alternatives such as solar and wind.

An absolutely fascinating talk from such a dynamic speaker and what a fabulous, engaged audience too! Thank you so much to Tim and everyone who came along with such interesting questions. We'd recommend this book to everyone, especially politicians!!

Signed books available in store and online now 😀
