The perfect mix of whimsy and elegance, this hand embroidered bag is made by Local Women's Handicrafts, a Fair Trade collective based in Kathmandu. Their organisation works hard to eradicate the suffering caused by sweatshops. They provide a happy, healthy work environment where women can develop valuable skills that allow them to support themselves (that's Fair Trade principle no. 8: Capacity building 😃).

Happy World Fair Trade Day! 🎉🌎

Today is the official day that we take a moment to reflect on Fair Trade. Fair Trade immeasurably changes lives by removing exploitation from the trading system. It ensures fair wages and fair working conditions for the people who produce our goods in the most economically marginalised communities. Having a day dedicated to Fair Trade is a fantastic thing.

But I encourage you to go beyond the calendar and make every day a Fair Trade day. It's easily done. Every day you have a cup of Fairtrade tea or coffee, drink from a Fair Trade mug, lean against a Fair Trade cushion cover, put on Fair Trade socks, grab your keys with their Fair Trade keyring, pop those keys in your Fair Trade purse, jot down thoughts in your Fair Trade notebook, light a Fair Trade candle or stick of incense, is a Fair Trade day.

You don't have to have the ten Fair Trade principles printed out on your cup-cupboard like us (although good for you if you do). You can simply enjoy a piece of Fairtrade chocolate. That counts. 😋
