This is a delightful Etching of a Wire Fox Hound and it is signed in pencil by the artist Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt. It is framed, mounted and glazed.
Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt (1895–1977) was an influential 20th-century German painter, graphic artist, and master copper engraver. He remains celebrated as one of the most revered portraitists of dogs, cats, and wildlife.
Born in Leipzig, he studied at the prestigious Weimar Academy of Fine Arts between 1912 and 1917. He was taught by notable masters like Theodor Hagen and Lyonel Feininger. Showing a strong individualist streak, he famously rejected an offer to become a professor in Weimar so that he could protect his artistic freedom. In 1918, he relocated to Munich, dedicating his career almost entirely to animal portraiture and technical copper plate engraving. His very early works dabbled briefly in late-19th-century movements and expressionism. However, his signature style became firmly grounded in naturalism and realism, joining the historical tradition of the Munich School. He is widely recognized for his fine drypoint and color etchings. These works are beloved for capturing the specific textures of animal fur alongside expressive, endearing facial expressions.
