Another one for

This Les Paul Custom is one classy guitar, that just needed some attention to fit and finish.

A fret level with a little fallaway as standard ensured the action was nice and low, with correct intonation and no buzz. A little attention to the saddles on the stock tune-o-matic meant more comfort for the playing hand, also.

A lovely Simon & Patrick acoustic on the bench with a particularly sweet grain.

This one had a very dry fingerboard and extra high action, courtesy of improper neck relief and that great wall of a saddle, which I lowered to a sensible level.

Proper conditioning darkened the 'board a little, bringing out the natural grain and a fret polish really made them pop. With a general clean up and a far lower action, sans buzz, the owner was a very happy camper.

Check out this splendid channel bound Stratocaster in sumptuous sonic blue.

This one needed careful fretwork and some general TLC to ring like a bell with a comfortable action and stable trem setup.

Swipe to see some of the wear on this lefty Lester. The old nickel silver frets weren't quite holding up for this player. The divots were becoming canyons, so we went with stainless steel to hopefully provide a tad more longevity.

The on the last photo got shiny new tuners and some much-needed TLC.

I've had a few queries, asking if I work on acoustic/electro acoustic guitars recently and the answer is a resounding yes!

I think there's an idea that acoustic guitars should be a bit of a struggle and while I'd certainly advocate heavier strings and a slightly higher action than a typical electric counterpart, they can still be setup to play completely effortlessly and sound crystal clear.

This one previously had a nut that was cut too low remedied by grounding the first fret flat for some clearance, and this was from a shop! It buzzed on open chords and was terribly intonated in that register.

After leveling and re-crowning, a deep clean and condition and a brand new bone nut, this guitar is playing perfectly and sounding how it should. It's just a shame I can't demo it, since I play the opposite way up/down...

Dug this out of the attic earlier. It'll be a fascinating read from the perspective I have now.

I was 13 when the humble stratocaster was celebrating its 50th birthday and now, nearly 2 decades later, its still an icon and I've set up more originals and copies than I can count. I've even put my own together and may have to try to top it in the coming year.

I've been on a break, with Covid but I've got some guitars incoming for the weekend now I can breathe again. If you've got a guitar that could use a good setup for Christmas, be it gigs or gifts, get in touch and let's see what we can do.

Check out this awesome '89 RG760 in a rare snakeskin finish. It's in great condition for its age.

This one is on the bench for a fret level, crown and polish as well as a thorough setup.

It had previously been shimmed too high at the nut and heel, leading to choking.

It's common to need to shim these areas but it's not a pre-requisite. With the nut lowered and the heel shim removed, I could still achieve the correct height over the first fret, proper relief and low-action without buzz.

It screams now, and the fantastic Edge tremolo can cleanly pull up in excess of a perfect fourth. Because, y'know, you need to do that sometimes...

What a difference a day makes...

This spent a few years in an attic, developing plenty of less-than healthy rust and mould.

A thorough clean, fret end dressing, polishing and a solid setup with some fresh strings and it's as good as new again!

That finish looks great over the flame veneer. Get in touch if you have a guitar you think you'll never get to play again. You'd be surprised what can be done.

Check out this original BB800.

It was in a slightly sorry state with a faulty input jack, plenty of surface grime, high action and a dry 'board.

After some soldering, cleaning, shimming and stringing with pinks, it's one of the best basses I've ever played and should be groovy for years to come.

Some TLC for this first year, 1987 RG550 today. These are getting harder to come by and this is a great example with enough natural wear to really vibe.

That Desert Yellow finish looks fantastic!

Cleared 34 years of muck off the neck/fingerboard, sealed it, cleaned up the original Edge trem, sharpened the knife edges and gave the guitar a darn-good setup with some teeny-tiny strings for good measure.

All that is gold does not glitter...

Any excuse for a LotR reference, eh? I love this EVO gold fret wire.

It's right between nickel silver and stainless steel in terms of hardness, its hypoallergenic and let's face it, it looks sick.

Re-fretted this fresh neck from before finishing the fretboard in gloss and the back in satin.
