This wine commemorates John Xavier Merriman, the last prime minister of The Cape, and it's surely a fitting tribute.

Winemaker -Murray Barlow's wines have won heaps of critical praise.

He's the only winemaker to twice win Young Winemaker of the Year at South Africa’s biggest wine awards event, Diners Club.

Expect aromas of mint, black fruits, spice and cigar box. This wine suits robust meat dishes, especially roast beef.

Château Le Caillou is a small, 7-hectare vineyard run by the Giraud-Belivier family, who are experts in Bordeaux's Right Bank.

Average annual production is small, but what's made is excellent-value Merlot-heavy claret that punches well above its price tag.

At 13 years old, this is savoury and full-bodied, with notes of cedar and to***co joining flavours of blackcurrant and plum.

It has a subtle earthiness that's great with mushroom-based vegetarian dishes or game.

🥂The Bollinger house has been producing world-class Champagne since 1829.

Their signature style is defined by power and complexity. And they continue to set the bar high with this, the first addition to their range in 30 years.

This rosé Champagne is packed with fresh strawberry, redcurrant, cherry and spice, backed up with a silky and fine texture.

Enjoy with strawberry cheesecake.🍰

Black Muscat, an under-appreciated Muscat variety, one of the very few black-skinned Muscats.

Elysium is Greek for Heaven, a fitting association for this excellent wine made by Andrew Quady.

Virtually black in colour, with a rose-like aroma, very intense on the palate and full of fantastic rich velvety fruit.

One of the few wines that can stand up to chocolate puddings.

Or try it poured over ice cream for the ultimate after-dinner treat.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, whether you are having a quiet night in or a lavish dinner, start date night right with a bottle of Rose Sparkling!

Heidsieck & Co. founder Florens-Louis Heidsieck had the tall ambition of creating Champagne fit for a queen.

And he achieved exactly that when he presented a cuvée to Marie Antoinette in 1788.

The house has been a favourite of many European royal courts and remains one of the most respected Grand Marque Champagnes today.

This rosé is an elegant example of their prestige. Expect a floral note of violet, with rich flavours of wild strawberry, raspberry and refreshing redcurrant.

🇦🇷Not long ago,Argentina was only seen as a producer of cheap bulk wine.

But,the Catena’s changed all that.

👉Nicolás Catena was the first South American winemaker to ever be named ‘Decanter’s Man of the Year’.

Nicolás’great-grandfather, Nicola, planted his first Malbec vines in 1902.

Since then, the family have amassed a collection of Malbec varietals which are exclusive to them.

It makes the Catena’s wines completely distinct from other Argentine Malbecs. Bold. Ripe. Fruity.

It’s a big wine with lots of flavour – and a lovely plush texture. It’s crying out for grilled meats – think barbecued steak with a punchy chimichurri sauce. Delicious.🍷👅

WINE OF THE WEEK!

Nunzio Ghiraldi Snr sold his delicious grapes off only to watch a famous winery pick up the credit for decades.

Not anymore. Twenty years ago, Nunzio Jnr used the vines originally planted by his grandfather to make this dry white wine from the indigenous Turbiana grape.

It's fruity and elegant, with notes of almond, peach, apricot and flint, a generous acidity and an excellent length.

Love Amarone but don’t want to break the bank?

Valpolicella Ripasso is for you – it’s even nicknamed ‘baby Amarone’.

It’s made in a clever way which melds the fresh fruitiness of standard Valpolicella with the rich, bitter-chocolatey character of Amarone.

How do they do it? The clue is in the name: Ripasso. It literally means to ‘re-pass’ – the method of re-fermenting normal Valpolicella wine with the leftover skins from Amarone production.

It transforms the standard light-bodied Valpolicella into a soft, supple, full-bodied wine which is seriously moreish.

Morello cherries. Blueberries. Liquorice. It’s really lush and ripe with a touch of dried fruitiness from the Amarone skins. Perfect with roast lamb.
