This week Haddie has chosen a book for her staff pick! 'No Dig', written by Charles Dowding (Anyone who knows Haddie will not be surprised by this one...)
"I discovered Charles Dowding a few years ago when my partner and I took on our first allotment. I started learning about the importance of healthy soil and how, by repeatedly digging into and turning over the soil, you are really disturbing everything that lives beneath it.
No Dig by has been such a brilliant manual to carry with us to the plot. It enables us to pick up tips and ideas without having to reach for a screen. The whole no dig approach feels much more in tune with nature - looking after the soil, encouraging wildlife, and growing healthy crops without constantly digging everything over. I really like the idea of treating the soil as its own living organism, full of life and natural balance, rather than just something to plant into and neglect. Charles Dowding's advice feels practical and approachable and he reuses whatever he can. The No Dig method definitely makes gardening feel simpler, calmer, and more rewarding, and has endless benefits that help us with our garden."
