How to Control Weeds Without Killing the Lawn

Weeds are a common problem affecting UK lawns, and if left untreated, they will compete with the grass for water, nutrients, and sunlight. This will result in your lawn sward becoming weaker, patchier, and less attractive.

Many homeowners use DIY weedkillers, hoping they will solve the problem quickly. However, different weeds require different treatments, and using the wrong product can damage your lawn or fail to address the problem altogether. A professional lawn care specialist can identify the weeds affecting your lawn and apply the correct treatment, removing them safely whilst still protecting your grass and environment.

Summer can be tough on lawns, with long periods of heat and dry soil that can leave grass looking brown, dry, and stressed as moisture evaporates more quickly from the soil.☀️

Maintaining your lawn throughout the summer requires smart mowing, deep watering, and reducing stress on the grass, all of which can help create a healthier lawn during long periods of heat.

Every lawn struggles differently throughout the summer, which is why contacting a lawn expert can help strengthen your lawn. Find a specialist today. https://bit.ly/4ggroWC

Your lawn gives you clues every time you mow.

The sound of the mower. The clippings left behind. The way the grass responds. Even the tracks from your tires.

Knowing what to notice can tell you a lot about what's happening in your lawn.

Here are 7 things to watch for the next time you mow:

Ariens develops zero-turn mowers for large lawns, obstacle-rich properties and professional grounds care. Ariens zero-turn mowers pivot on the spot with a zero-degree turning radius, shortening the mowing route around trees, beds, paths and other obstacles.

The practical difference is rarely found on a long, straight pass. Mowing time is usually lost where a conventional lawn tractor has to swing wide, reverse and line up for the next run. A zero-turn mower controls its rear wheels independently, so it can turn directly at the end of the line and continue without tracing a broad loop across the lawn.

In a practical comparison on a level area of around 4,000 m² with numerous obstacles, a zero-turn mower with the same cutting width completed the mowing job up to 40 per cent faster than a lawn tractor. The saving came from reducing empty travel and repositioning, rather than rushing the work.

That working principle shapes the Ariens range. Compact models bring zero-turn manoeuvrability to private properties, while larger machines are designed for long days in commercial and municipal lawn care. Depending on the model, the choice includes petrol or battery power, different deck widths, suspension seating and components intended for frequent professional use.

Ariens was founded in Brillion, Wisconsin, in 1933 and remains family owned. Durability, ease of maintenance and operator comfort are established principles of its mower development. Welded steel frames, substantial cutting decks and hydrostatic transmissions therefore have a practical job to do. They need to withstand impacts, vibration and years of regular mowing.

On this profile, we show Ariens zero-turn mowers where their advantage becomes visible: across large lawns, between obstacles, on private properties and during demanding professional work.

Where does your current mowing routine lose the most time?

Fuel FAQs: Does cheap 2-stroke really make a difference?

Yes. Always use a high quality 2-stroke oil because it's the lubricant for the engine. The better the 2-stroke is, the longer the machinery will last - and cheap 2 -stroke oil is of poor quality).

Sports Turf Agronomy Advice - August 2026

As we move into August, many turf managers will be hoping for a break in what has been another challenging summer. Large parts of England have experienced prolonged periods of hot, dry weather throughout June and July, with repeated heatwaves placing golf courses and sports grounds under significant pressure.
