Mikao Usui did not simply call his system "Reiki."
He called it Shin-Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryõhõ - "Usui's Reiki Method for Improving the Body and Mind/ Consciousness."
What did "healing the consciousness' mean?
In Usui's approach, healing was not limited to the laying on of hands or working directly with the physical body.
Great importance was placed on a person's inner state, peace of mind, gratitude, and changes in their way of life.
In Usui's manual, which dates approximately to this period, five principles are presented:
Just for today:
✨ Do not be angry
✨ Do not worry
✨ Be grateful
✨ Do your work and fulfill your duties honestly.
✨ Be kind to others.
Thus, "healing the consciousness" can be beautifully understood as a return to inner balance - less fear and anger, and more gratitude, peace, and kindness toward others.
There is also another important detail:
in 1925, Usui expanded his clinic in Tokyo because of the large number of people seeking treatment and training.
