Good morning Bridport! Let us start with this afternoon, because it is the second to last West Bay Craft Fair of the season. If you have not made it down yet, this is your nudge. There are some genuinely lovely handmade things on those stalls and only one more chance after today.

The rain has been and gone, there is none forecast, so it is looking like a proper pleasant Wednesday for it.

In town, our Wednesday regulars are back in their usual spots. These are the traders who turn up week in, week out, rain or shine, who know your name, know what you bought last time and will happily put something by for you. You will not find that on any website. Come and have a mooch and say hello.

Looking ahead, the Melplash Show is tomorrow. Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre, or you can buy them on the gate on the day.

And then the weekend, when Bridport really is the place to be if you like a bargain or a bit of vintage hunting. There is the West Bay Car Boot Sale, the Symondsbury Car Boot Sale, the Vintage Market at St Michaels and the Wessex Book Fair. 🎪🎉 IT'S CARNIVAL DAY! 🎉🎪

The big day is finally here!

And it starts right now, because Bridport Market is on this morning. We've over a hundred stalls booked in today, so it's easy to see why we're the biggest street market in the South West! Come for the market, stay for the Carnival and make a full day of it in town.

Here's how the rest of the day unfolds:

⛳ Golf Competition at The Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club
🎶 The Bridport Broadsides Shanty Crew in Bucky Doo Square, 5.30pm to 6.30pm
🎠 Procession lines up at Foundry Lea from 5.30pm and moves off at 7.00pm
🏆 Winners Presentation at 9.00pm in Bucky Doo Square, followed by dancing in the street with Static Flight
🎡 Fair at West Street Car Park

A little while back we caught up with the inspirational Ulrica Millie-Tiso, selling her beautiful artwork at the West Bay Summer Market.

Ulrica's work is all about wellbeing, with gentle messages of hope, encouragement and quiet strength that stay with you long after you've hung them on the wall.

There's more to it, too. Ulrica's art raises funds and awareness for PoTS UK. PoTS stands for Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, a condition caused by an abnormal response by the autonomic nervous system, where the body cannot adjust properly to gravity, so simply standing up becomes a challenge. Symptoms can include palpitations, lightheadedness, fatigue, sweating, nausea, fainting and headaches. It can be life-altering and debilitating, and it is still very often misunderstood.

One thing to know before you head in: mobile phone signal is down across town this morning, so card machines may be a bit hit and miss. It might be worth stopping by a cash machine on your way in, just in case.

But here's the heartwarming bit: several of our lovely Bridport businesses have stepped in and shared their wifi with the traders pitched outside their doors, keeping the market running smoothly. It's moments like these that show what a special community we have here, traders and town businesses looking out for each other. Thank you, businesses of Bridport, you're absolute stars! ⭐

Then this afternoon, it's over to the West Bay Summer Market, running from 2pm until 8pm at The Salt House, with lots of lovely crafts and interesting finds waiting to be discovered. Well worth a wander down to the bay.

Another glorious one! We really have been blessed with the sunshine this summer, haven't we. The country is looking properly parched by now, but I think our traders would take a dry day over a soggy one any day of the week.

Over on Bucky Doo this morning, Bridport Youth Dance are running their cake stall, so do go and support them (and treat yourself while you're at it). Wessex Military Band are keeping us entertained through the morning, then Thirsty Ferret take over this afternoon.

Come and get rehydrated in town today, and don't forget your sunhat and the suncream!

Today is solar eclipse day! ☀️🌙

And West Bay is an excellent spot to catch it, with that lovely open view out to sea. The eclipse happens this evening with the sun low in the western sky.

Make an afternoon and evening of it! The craft fair is on at The Salt House from 2pm until 8pm, with beautiful handmade pieces from our local makers, and there are plenty of lovely places to eat and drink while you wait for the show in the sky. A browse, a bite, and an eclipse, sounds like a rather good Wednesday to us!

A couple of quick reminders: never look directly at the sun without proper eclipse glasses, even during the eclipse itself, and please do keep well away from the cliff edges and bases. After all this dry weather the cliffs are more unstable than usual, so enjoy the view from a safe distance.

What a beautiful day for a market! We've got a bumper number of traders out with us in Bridport today, so there's plenty to have a good rummage through.

Joining us for the very first time is Elizabeth Shahrad, who is here with her book set right here in West Dorset, in Broadoak just up the road from Bridport. You'll find Elizabeth on Downes Street, so do pop along and give her a proper Bridport welcome.

Up at the WI hall it's our monthly Craft Fair, and there are some really lovely things to be found in there this month.

The MS Society are on Bucky Doo Square, with the East Street Band keeping us all entertained this morning.

And our Bridport Market bags certainly do get around! They have travelled all over the world, and this one has made it all the way to Iceland with Bradpole Councillor Rob Casey.

The sun is shining, there's a lovely breeze keeping things cool, and Bridport is the place to be today!

The market is looking lovely and full this morning, so do come and have a browse. Chris Deacon is entertaining Bucky Doo Square, with Jake Miller taking over this afternoon, live music all day long! Bridport Youth Dance have a cake stall there too, so treat yourself to something sweet and support our brilliant young dancers while you're at it.

Then from 2pm, a big shout out for the West Bay Summer Market, running until 8pm at The Salt House and on the green outside. You'll find some beautiful handmade crafts from our talented local makers, the perfect excuse for a wander by the sea!

Market and music in town, crafts down the bay, that's a pretty good Wednesday if you ask us!

Happy Wednesday from a bright and sunny Bridport!
The sun is out, the temperature is lovely, and there's plenty to see on the market today.

Over on Bucky Doo Square we've got Weldmar Hospicecare with some gorgeous handknits for babies and children, well worth a look if you've a little one to spoil. Stompin' Dave will be entertaining us too, and he always goes down a treat.

Then this afternoon, if you fancy a wander down to the beach, the West Bay Summer Market is on. It's a lovely walk down from town in this weather, or a short drive if you'd rather.

And one to tuck away for the weekend, the West Bay Shuttle Bus runs on Saturdays and Sundays, roughly every half hour from Church Street, and it's only a pound a journey.

Today is the first West Bay Summer Market of the year! It kicks off at 2pm and runs through until the evening, every week through the summer. So if you fancy a stroll by the beach, head for The Salt House and Fisherman's Green, where you'll find lovely crafts, collectables, sweets and cakes. Treat yourself, or pick up something special to take home as a souvenir. And with tons of places to eat in West Bay, from fish and chips by the harbour to cafes, pubs and everything in between, there's a huge variety to choose from, so you could easily make an evening of it too. You could also pop in to the West Bay Discovery Centre and learn some local history.🍺🍷🍽️🐟

Meanwhile, up in town, Bridport Market has a couple of new faces to welcome today! Campervantastic are joining us for the first time outside Cilla and Camilla, with everything you could need for your campervan. Doing his second market outside Bridport Post Office is Frank Graziano, do stop by and say hello. And over by the The Woodman you'll find some great collectables from Derrick Green.

So whether it's a browse round the market this morning or an afternoon by the sea at West Bay, it really is a lovely day to be out and about. Why not make a whole day of it and do both? ☀️🏖⛱
