The main purpose of the Workshop Supervisor is to direct and coordinate all activities of the mechanics within the workshop. They will work closely with the sales team to ensure that the specification of each build is compatible and complete. They will be expected to manage both their own time and responsibilities and those of the mechanics’ team. They will report to the Workshop Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate team of mechanics by scheduling work tasks, setting priorities, and directing the available work.
• Maintain and establish best practice methods and techniques.
• Provide feedback about specific bicycle builds and performance of the mechanics to the management.
• Scrutinise all work completed by mechanics.
• Identify areas of weak practice and provide training.
• Build, repair or service bicycles as required.
• Requisition workshop consumables and maintain stock levels.
• Oversee that the workshop and all benches are kept clean and tidy.
• Ensure maintenance of workshop equipment and tools
• Sell services and accessories as required.
• Ensure a prompt and systematic response to telephone, email and postal enquiries.
• Maintain impeccable customer service.
• Arrange appointments.
• Liaise with other company departments.
• Ensure Workshop health and safety is maintained.
• Accept training when offered.
• Operate card machines and tills.
• Work within the bounds of the Employees’ Manual.
• Be flexible and carry out any requested tasks.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
• Extensive knowledge of the standard methods, principles, practices, tools and equipment of the bicycle building industry.
• Good team leader.
• Efficient organisation skills.
• Ability to manage minor disputes.
• Speak, read, write and understand English.
• Be competent in computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, data base).
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
• English Language GCSE grade C or equivalent
• Maths GCSE grade C or equivalent
• Cytech Technical 3 or equivalent NVQ
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position involves standing and walking during working hours, with about 50% desk work. Sometimes heavy lifting is required.
You will be required to appropriate your time between your work stand and your desk.
You will distribute the work load between the mechanics and ensure that all work undertaken in the Workshop meets the required standard.
You will help to identify areas of weak practice and provide training where and when necessary.
You will be required to answer queries from customers via email and telephone, as well as meeting with customers face to face.
You will be responsible for ensuring that Health and Safety is adhered to at all times (as is detailed in the company Health and Safety Policy document) of which you are required to have a sound working knowledge.
