Slow weekends 🌱

After a full week of noise, schedules, notifications, and rushing from one thing to another, weekends have become my quiet reset.

Watering plants, checking leaves, repotting a few plants — simple things that help me slow my thoughts down and spend a little more time inside my own head.

Sometimes slowing down looks less like “doing nothing” and more like making space to breathe again.

What does slowing down look like for you lately? 🌱

MUST-KNOW TIPS 👇

If you only remember five plant care tips, let them be these:

1️⃣ Prioritise light.
Before adjusting watering or feeding, check your light. Without adequate light, plants can’t properly use water or nutrients.

2️⃣ Stop watering on autopilot.
Water based on soil moisture — not habit. Check the top 1 - 2 inches or the pot’s weight before reaching for the watering can. Better yet, switch to clear pots to remove second-guessing whether or not it’s time to water yet.

3️⃣ Drainage is essential.
Excess water must escape. Sitting water at the bottom of the pot is one of the fastest ways to cause root rot. Always use pots with drainage holes at the bottom or you can DIY and bore holes on your pot using a soldering kit.

4️⃣ Fertilise during active growth.
Indoor plants still need nutrients. During spring and summer, a balanced fertiliser supports healthy foliage and root development.

5️⃣ Aeration in your substrate matters.
Chunky components like bark, perlite or pumice improve airflow to roots and prevent compaction. This is especially important for aroids like Monsteras, Alocasias and Philodendron.

Plant care isn’t about doing more.
It’s about getting the fundamentals right.

I never skip this step 👇

After watering, i always let my plants rest on a dry towel for a few minutes.

It’s a small step, but it helps absorb excess water from the drainage holes, improves airflow around the roots, and reduces the chances of soggy soil/substrate sitting at the bottom of the pot — one of the most common causes of root rot, especially for indoor plants.

Simple habits like this can make a big difference over time, particularly for plants that prefer evenly moist (not wet) conditions.

Sometimes it’s not about watering less — it’s about letting water drain properly.

Letting the roots do the work 💦

I switched to bottom watering for all my plants and haven’t looked back.

Why it works?

1️⃣ Encourages stronger root growth
Water is absorbed from the bottom up and allows roots to drink at their own pace.

2️⃣ Reduces the risk of overwatering
The plant only takes up what it needs, making it easier to avoid soggy soil and root rot.

3️⃣ Evenly hydrates the entire root ball
No dry pockets, no guessing — moisture reaches all the roots, not just the top layer.

4️⃣ Minimises fungal and pest issues
Bottom watering keeps leaves and top soil dry. No splashing on foliage and top soil is not overly moist which keep fungal issues and pests at bay.

For variegated plants, stable moisture is especially important. Inconsistent watering can stress the plant and affect overall growth.

Do you bottom water your plants, or are you thinking of trying it?

Save this for your next watering day! 💦

Down to the nodes we go 😆

When a “small chop” turns into a full propagation session (which happens more often than I can admit! 😬)

Leggy plants grow better when you cut back to the nodes and let them start again.

Who else gets carried away with propagation? 🙋🏻‍♀️

A quiet tidy-up and a gentle reset before the year ends 🌱

I’m spending these last days of the year clearing, cleaning, and rearranging my plant table — not to rush into what’s next, but to make space for it. A fresh work area for 2026, shaped slowly and with intention.

This season reminds me that growth doesn’t need urgency. Just care, light, and time.
Plants slow me down in the best way — especially during Christmas, when everything else feels loud and fast.

If you’re finding pockets of stillness between the festivities, let this be your reminder: slowing down is productive too. 🌿

How are you closing out the year?
