Patchwork Dreamer Bodmin

Patchwork Dreamer Bodmin Patchwork and quilting fabric shop in Bodmin, Cornwall. Fabrics, kits and sewing classes in a bright, friendly studio

Hi I am Mary a mum of two with a Patchwork and Quilting habit. I love all things patchwork and spend hours looking at what other people have made. I have completed a City and Guilds in Patchwork and Quilting, and now teach others all about my obsession. Patchwork Dreamer really is a dream of mine, I started out just on line but in November 2019 I moved into the real world with a cabin on the edge

of Cardinham woods. Classes and stock grew and in April 2024 I moved into the Market House Arcade in Bodmin where I have a light and airy studio for teaching and a bigger shop for lots of lovely fabric.

Good morning everyone 🧵💜
I have to admit, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying working on the Summer Slow Sewing Challenge. It’s one of those projects that’s very easy to pick up for “just a few stitches” and somehow an hour disappears! At the moment I’m quietly hand quilting my sample and enjoying watching it come together stitch by stitch.
Of course, while I’m finishing one project, my eyes are already wandering to the next one! This lovely Posies and Pathways design from Hugs ‘n Kisses has caught my attention. The original is stitched in gorgeous rich reds, but I’m wondering how it would look in shades of purple instead. I think it could be rather beautiful.
The trouble with being surrounded by inspiring fabrics all day is that there are always far more projects I’d like to make than there are hours in the day!
Patchwork Dreamer is open today from 9.30 until 4.30 if you’re passing by. In the meantime, I’d love to know — are you a pattern-following stitcher, or do you like to put your own colour twist on a design?
Happy stitching,
Mary @ Patchwork Dreamer 💜🪡

Good morning everyone ☔🧵
Well, it’s a tad damp in Cornwall today! In fact, the weather has been so enthusiastic that the final day of the Royal Cornwall Show has been cancelled.
If you’re looking for somewhere dry to browse beautiful fabrics and gather a little inspiration, Patchwork Dreamer is open now until 4.30pm. I’ve been admiring these lovely blues and creams this morning – they seem to suit the weather perfectly.
There’s also some exciting news in the Market House Arcade today as opens its doors. If you’re in town, do pop along and give the new shop a warm Bodmin welcome.
As for me, today’s challenge is less stitchy and more technical. My laptop and printer have had a bit of a tiff and are currently refusing to speak to each other, so I’ll be spending part of the day trying to negotiate a peace treaty between them. Whether either side is willing to compromise remains to be seen!
Have a lovely Saturday, whatever you're up to, and stay dry if you can. 💙

Good morning everyone ☔
Well, this post has already aged badly! It was dry when I started writing it, but the rain has now returned to Bodmin.
Yesterday’s heavy downpours certainly made their presence felt, and I really felt sorry for everyone at the Royal Cornwall Show. Fingers crossed the weather manages to behave itself for at least part of the day.
Thank you to everyone who popped into the shop yesterday. With the show on, I’d expected things to be fairly quiet, but I was pleasantly surprised by how busy it was. It was lovely to see so many of you.
I’m open today until 4.30pm.
My to-do list is already looking rather daunting: editing photos, writing instructions, tackling the accounts, making up orders, and getting next week’s fabric deliveries ready to go onto the website. There’s certainly no shortage of jobs to keep me occupied!
The trouble is, there’s also some hand quilting sitting beside me, quietly calling my name. I have a feeling that at some point today, the sensible jobs may have to wait while I sneak in a few stitches.
Whatever the weather decides to do today, I hope you find a little time for something creative.

Well… after the success of left-foot sewing, I decided it was time to progress to the advanced level and attempt right-foot sewing. 😆
This required a rather dramatic pre-sewing ritual involving the seductive ripping apart of six straps of Velcro, the removal of both a plastic boot and an air boot, and the careful placement of one surgically stocked foot onto the sewing machine pedal.
I had to adjust my usual seating position and started off cautiously. Very cautiously.
For about thirty seconds.
Then I was racing up and down those seams like I was qualifying for the Grand Prix of Patchwork. 🏁🧵
The good news is that the Summer Slow Sewing Challenge is moving forward nicely. There is a sneak peek in the picture. Mark the 25/7/26 in your diary for the start of this summer’s slow sewing.
Who knew something as simple as putting your foot on a pedal could feel like such a milestone? 💙🪡

Well this is new, stitching with my left foot on the peddle! I have never been able to embrace the stop start button so here I am embracing my inner ambidexterity 😋 Are you a foot pedal, button or hand cranker on the sewing machine?

Good morning everyone 🧵☀️
It’s the first day of the Royal Cornwall Show today. Traditionally the town goes a little quieter while the show is on, so I’m expecting a calmer day in the shop. That means I’m planning to make the most of it by getting the sewing machine out and working on the Summer Slow Sewing Challenge behind the scenes.
One fabric that certainly hasn’t been hanging around is this beautiful ombré floral from the Boho Blooms collection by Lewis & Irene. The colours flow so beautifully across the width of the fabric, and it seems lots of you have fallen in love with it too. I’m now down to my last three metres!
If you’re heading off to the show today, I hope you have a wonderful time and the weather behaves itself. If not, and you fancy a quieter day surrounded by fabric, thread and inspiration, I’ll be here until 4.30pm.
