We're delighted to be celebrating our third as the UK's first accredited tissue manufacturer! 🙌

In 2021, we committed to paying the real Living Wage or higher to all of our employees. This was achieved across all sites in 2022, and we are proud to maintain this accreditation today.

By paying the real Living Wage, we have confidence and assurance that our colleagues are earning enough to live on. This is highly important to us since earning a wage that meets their needs can help colleagues live happier and healthier lives.

With 12.9% of employees still earning less than the true Living Wage*, we encourage other businesses to do the same.

Work can have a significant impact on our mental health, both positively and negatively, which is why it's so important that we support our colleagues and invest in a workplace culture where our colleagues can thrive.

The introduction of the ‘Powering Our Potential’ programme has help colleagues gain a deeper understanding of how their minds work. Since the initiative’s launch, we’ve seen…

💚 Lowest level of (people) disruption, despite experiencing a period of significant internal and external change.
💚 Record-low absence rates of 1.4%, compared to historical rates of 5%, highlighting a healthier workforce that is engaged, productive, and motivated.
💚 Minimal stress-related incidents within the workplace, with almost zero grievances and conflicts reported.
💚 An increase in self-awareness with colleagues now better comprehending and adapting to the working styles and behaviours of others.

We know that having this programme helps colleagues realise their built-in potential and reduce their psychological noise. This optimises well-being naturally (without colleagues having “more to do”) and ultimately makes us a better business.

Good businesses start with the best people. 🌟

Last year, we launched ‘Powering Our Potential’, a programme designed to help colleagues understand the human mind, reduce stress, and foster connection even in challenging times.

We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made so far, having taken around 70 colleagues through the programme. POP has helped them to realise their built-in potential and reduce their psychological noise, optimising their well-being naturally without giving them ‘more to do’.

As we continue to roll out it out across the business, we recognised the diverse needs of our workforce, so we introduced our first-ever in-person workshop so that it can be easily accessible to all.

We’re excited to see the positive impact these workshops continue to have, creating a high-performing culture by empowering colleagues to reach their full potential and be at their best, more of the time.

Did you know… over 14,000 employers in the UK are Living Wage accredited, yet Accrol was the first-ever UK tissue manufacturer to become accredited.

This month celebrates Accrol's two-year anniversary as a Living Wage accredited employer! 🎉

We recently welcomed Abdul, a final-year Engineering student from Blackburn College, who completed a week-long work placement at our state-of-the-art Blackburn production site, Gamma. 🏭

Gamma manufactures facial tissue products, including our brand Softy, which is currently the No.2 facial tissue brand*.

During his time with the team, he was involved in various aspects of engineering, which ranged from assisting with production to gaining experience in mechanical, electrical, and automation processes.

💬 Abdul shared “I’ve never had opportunities like this before. When my college offered me an engineering work placement, I knew I had to go for it.

I wanted hands-on experience to bridge theory with practice by implementing and applying my knowledge to a physical role, which I was able to do through the work placement.

I didn’t know what to expect at first, as this was my first time working in a business, but being able to come and work in an engineering team has been invaluable. Plus, seeing the machinery and robots in action was incredible!

I’ve also gained social skills and confidence I didn’t have before as I’ve had to work with several different people. I enjoyed learning from and working with members of the Accrol team and feeling like I was a part of something.

I highly recommend work experience to anyone; despite initial nerves, it was rewarding to engage directly with manufacturing engineering.”

Elegance price-marked packaging now contains 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) film, compared to 30% that was previously used. ♻️

PCR packaging is manufactured with film that is made from recycled materials, reducing the amount of virgin plastic used.

Following successful trials, we continue to implement this into many consumer products, with the aim to continue exploring materials that will help minimise our environmental impact.

We take pride in our people, who are at the heart of our business; how can we maximise their potential and create a culture in which they can thrive?

Last year, we introduced 'Powering Our Potential', a programme designed to help people, very simply, understand how the human mind works, allowing them to live with less stress, greater ease, and a sense of connection to the larger unfolding of life even in the midst of challenging circumstances. 🧠

This programme is foundational in our journey to develop a high-performing culture driven by strong colleague engagement, self-awareness, and resilience.

We introduced this to the senior leadership team, with ongoing support and initiatives to enable its implementation throughout the organisation. So far, the programme has been extremely well received, with it being described as ‘transformational’ from those who have taken part. 🌟

At Accrol, we're committed to continuously minimising our plastic consumption throughout our operations.

Being fully automated allows us to optimise the materials we use and the way we use them. Through carefully designed trials, we now have:

✅ Minimised the plastic micron (‘thickness’) used
✅ Optimised the pre-stretch of the plastic to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
✅ Optimised the number of rotations of each pallet being wrapped

We’ve also successfully introduced 50% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) to customer products, minimising the use of virgin plastic and 100% of all plastic packaging used is recyclable.

We will continue to assess and explore ways to reduce our environmental impact.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve recently revitalised our personal care wet wipes brand, Cherish!

Developed several years ago, the brand has now been refreshed with a clearer position within the market; everyday care that’s simple and easy. It’s a brand that consumers can be confident in to clean, refresh, protect and care for their skin.

As part of the revitalisation, we’re introducing two new facial skincare products, and for the first time ever, it will also expand beyond facial skincare.

Eid Mubarak! 🙌

We have a wonderfully diverse workforce that represents each of the areas in which we operate, and we recognise the value of allowing colleagues to mark the occasions and events that are an important part of their faith and culture.

Every year, we support colleagues who observe Ramadan with on-site Imam-led prayers and Iftar meals, and this is something we will continue to do.

The Imam who has been supporting our colleagues throughout Ramadan, shared: “As Ramadhan; a month of worship and steadfastness, comes to an end. We celebrate Eid with our families in the hope, that we can continue to implement the lessons we have polished in the blessed month; kindness, patience, gratitude and generosity.

I wish everyone at Accrol Eid Mubarak and hope they have a great time with their family and friends.”
