Delivering Flooring For A Space That Matters

Some projects require more than simply choosing a colour and fitting a carpet.

For this installation, we were asked to provide a flooring solution for a large communal space that needed to be both durable and appropriate for the way the area is used day to day.

Working with the client's requirements, we sourced JHS Freelance Azure, a hardwearing carpet manufactured from solution-dyed nylon. Its subtle patterning helps with the appearance of foot traffic over time while providing the durability needed for a busy environment.

The installation involved over 200m² of dual-bonded carpet, alongside Gradus white nosings and nap trims, all carefully mitred on site to achieve a neat and consistent finish throughout.

We also installed Hippo entrance matting to help reduce the amount of dirt and moisture brought into the building and to support the long-term performance of the flooring.

Projects of this scale rely on careful planning, attention to detail and trust from the client. We were proud to be involved and grateful for the opportunity to deliver a flooring solution suited to both the space and its intended use.

Bonus points if you spot Henry the Hoover in the final image. He turned up just in time for the photos and has been claiming responsibility ever since.

When people think about new flooring, they often picture the installation day.

In reality, a successful flooring project starts much earlier.

Many customers begin by visiting our showroom to explore different carpet, vinyl and LVT options, compare colours and textures, and discuss their requirements with our team.

From there, we'll arrange a home visit to measure up, assess the subfloor and talk through any considerations for the project.

Once a flooring choice has been made, we carefully calculate quantities, plan layouts and identify any preparation work needed before installation begins.

While fitting day is the most visible part of the process, it's often the work done beforehand that helps ensure the best possible result.

A Hallway Designed to Make an Impression

The hallway is often the first space you see when you enter a home, so getting the details right can make a real difference.

For this project, we installed Karndean Heritage Montpellier 02 to the entrance hall, with a diamond border and infill to help frame the space and create a more traditional feel.

The subfloor was prepared with plywood and smoothing compound before installation to provide a smooth and stable base for the flooring.

Up the stairs, we fitted a Brockway Lakeland Herdwick Flatweave runner in Buttermere, finished with black binding tape and complemented by black Jubilee stair rods. The hallway flooring was completed with matching black Premier trims, tying everything together throughout the space.

A great example of how combining different materials, textures and finishing details can create a cohesive look from the front door through to the first floor.

Finished Friday

Earlier this week, we shared the preparation stages of this project, from uplifting the existing slate floor through to moisture control and subfloor preparation.

Today we're pleased to share the finished result.

This project was a little different from the norm.

Our customer came to us with a clear idea of the look they wanted to achieve, along with an AI-generated visualisation to help bring their vision to life.

Working together, we explored different options and helped them select a floor that would complement the design, suit the space, and achieve the finished look they were aiming for.

The chosen floor was an Amtico Signature frame laying pattern using Crema Marfil tiles with Bianca Classic Marble stripping, creating a bright and elegant finish throughout this galley kitchen.

It's always rewarding to see a project come together when a customer has a strong vision from the outset, and even more satisfying to help transform that vision into a finished floor that can be enjoyed for years to come.

When customers see a finished floor, it's easy to overlook the preparation work that happens beforehand.

For this project, the process included:

✔ Removal of the existing slate tiles
✔ Initial smoothing compound layer with F Ball Stopgap 1200
✔F ball F77 Waterproof Surface Membrane
✔ Final smoothing compound with F Ball Stopgap 1200 ready for new Amtico LVT

Proper preparation is one of the most important parts of any flooring installation and helps provide the best possible foundation for the finished floor.

We'll be sharing the completed transformation on Friday.

Small details can make a huge difference to the overall finish of a flooring installation.

For this project, we installed Karndean Art Select Spanish Cherry Parquet, alongside a number of carefully planned finishing details designed to complement both the flooring and the layout of the home.

The installation featured:
• Antique brass nosings separating different floor height zones
• Antique brass matwell lips framing the coir entrance matting
• A straight plank transition between the kitchen and dining area

The straight-plank detail also helped address an awkward room angle that would have disrupted the herringbone pattern's flow, turning a potential challenge into a design feature within the installation.

It’s often these finishing touches that help elevate the final result and create a more balanced, polished look throughout the space.

Why Layout Matters

With LVT installations, the planning and layout stage is just as important as the flooring itself.

Before any planks are fitted, the installation begins by setting out the main centre line, often referred to as the “crown line”, which the entire herringbone pattern is built from.

Taking the time to get this stage right helps create:
• A more balanced layout throughout the room
• Better flow within the pattern
• Cleaner perimeter cuts
• A more symmetrical overall finish

Careful preparation and planning at the start of a project can make a huge difference to the final appearance of the installation.

A staircase runner is a great way to add warmth, texture, and character.

For this project we installed a Brockway Herdwick Herringbone runner in Buttermere Black, finished with chrome Homepride stair rods and installed over Duralay Treadmore underlay for added comfort and durability underfoot.

Part of Brockway’s Lakeland Herdwick collection, this traditionally woven Wilton runner is made using pure undyed British wool, giving it a natural look and a hard-wearing finish that works perfectly in busy areas such as stairs and hallways.

The runner and chrome stair rods helped create a timeless finish.
