Recently, Soho Road BID, in partnership with Birmingham City Council Highways (Kier), carried out a detailed street inspection along Soho Hill and Soho Road, assessing both footpaths and the main carriageway for defects and potential trip hazards.

This proactive work is in preparation for the Birmingham & Sandwell Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan taking place on Sunday 26th April 2026. As part of Sikh tradition, participants in the procession will walk barefoot, making it especially important that the route is safe and well-maintained.

We are working closely with our partners to ensure that any necessary remedial works are completed ahead of the event, helping to create a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees and the wider community.

We look forward to supporting this significant cultural and religious event in our district.

Happy Vaisakhi from the Soho Road BID!

Today we join in celebrating Vaisakhi, a vibrant festival full of joy, colour, and meaning. Vaisakhi marks both the harvest season in Punjab and the birth of the Khalsa, a key moment in Sikh history symbolising spiritual strength, equality, and service to others.

It’s a time to give thanks, share food, music, and prayer, and come together as one community united in positivity and hope.

Wishing everyone celebrating a wonderful Vaisakhi filled with happiness, peace, and prosperity!

As the warmer weather sets in, the Soho Road BID Security Team continues to work tirelessly to support our business community and address the daily challenges we face across the district.
The images shared highlight some of the realities on the ground—responding to incidents of anti-social behaviour, supporting vulnerable rough sleepers, assisting businesses in removing individuals under the influence from their premises, and working closely with West Midlands Police to ensure that those engaging in harmful activities such as public drinking and drug use are dealt with appropriately.

Our priority remains creating a safe, welcoming, and thriving environment for businesses, visitors, and residents alike. This ongoing work is made possible through strong partnerships and a proactive, visible presence across the Soho Road BID area.

We can all play our part in helping to tackle these issues—please report incidents to West Midlands Police via 101, or 999 in urgent situations.

We were delighted to host a successful Iftar here at the Soho Road BID for Ramadan 2026, bringing together a truly diverse and unified community.

It was an honour to welcome a number of distinguished guests, including the Lord Lieutenant, Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, our local MP Ayoub Khan, and Deputy Lieutenant Professor Mondar Ram.

This special evening was delivered in collaboration with all four mosques in Handsworth — Makki Masjid, Bilal Mosque, Medina Mosque, and Handsworth Mosque — reflecting the strength of partnership across our local faith institutions.

The event was a multi-faith gathering, attended by representatives from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, alongside community leaders and local businesses from Soho Road. It was a powerful reminder of the unity and shared values that define our area.

We are pleased to share photos from the evening, published just in time as we approach Eid.

Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating.

Over the past few days, the Soho Road BID Security team has continued to deliver significant work on the ground to support businesses, improve safety, and assist vulnerable individuals across the area.

Working in close partnership with West Midlands Police, our BID Security team has helped facilitate several arrests, including individuals wanted for burglary and another for carrying an offensive weapon. This partnership approach continues to make a real difference in addressing crime and anti-social behaviour on Soho Road.

Our teams are also regularly supporting ambulance crews by assisting vulnerable individuals within the street community, helping to prevent serious health risks and ensuring people are directed towards the appropriate support services.

On average, our BID Security team is responding to several incidents and callouts every day. This includes:
•Around 10 callouts directly from businesses requesting assistance.
•Approximately 15 intoxicated individuals requiring intervention each day.
• An average of 1 arrest per day supported by the team.
•Around 5 shoplifters identified or reported daily.
•Approximately 5 referrals per day for individuals experiencing rough sleeping.
• Around 10 incidents involving drug use each day.

This level of activity highlights the daily pressures faced across the area and the importance of having a dedicated BID team providing immediate support to businesses and partners.

A massive well done to our BID Security team for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to keeping the Soho Road BID area safe and supported every single day.
