🎶 A lovely bit of vintage hi-fi through the doors today!

We’ve picked up a cracking old-school stereo setup, including Akai separates and a turntable, along with a box full of records.

There’s just something about proper vintage hi-fi — big switches, chunky controls and equipment that was built to last. We’ll be getting everything checked over and tested before it heads out for sale.

If you’re into vinyl, vintage audio, retro tech or just love a bit of old-school kit, keep an eye on the shop. 👀🎵

VINYL SOCIAL — IT’S ABOUT MORE THAN THE MUSIC 🎶🍸

I was chatting to a couple after the last Vinyl Social. They were the first through the door and pretty much the last to leave — cocktails, beers and a good night all round.

So I asked them, “Did you enjoy the music?”

Their answer made me smile: “It’s not really our kind of music… but we loved the night.”

And that, for me, absolutely nails what Vinyl Social is about.

Sitting around tables. Having a drink. Meeting people you didn’t know when you walked in. Having a laugh. And yes, having some decent records spinning in the background — although I might be slightly biased on that one! 😂

It’s about connection.

Next up we’ve got Andy Coleman, DJ and promoter behind Heritage Nights, joining us on the decks. I genuinely can’t wait for this one.

So come down, support something a little different happening in your area, grab a drink, pull up a chair and see where the night takes you.

Good music. Good people. No pretence. Just a proper social. ❤️🎶

Absolutely brilliant to see someone from Birmingham getting that kind of recognition and showcasing the roots and sounds of the Midlands on a national platform.

🎶 You might not know, but Rob runs a monthly Vinyl Social night at New Era Coffee Bar in Sheldon, playing alongside a different guest DJ each month.

Tomorrow it’s starting an hour earlier and running half an hour later — 5pm until 10:30pm.

That extra early hour means Rob can dig a little deeper into the singles — some 70s, a bit of reggae, Paul Simon, a few obscurities and even the odd slightly cheesy one. Basically, just good records that are fun to hear again.

Later on, things move into the usual mix of funk, disco and house, with Martin Dean joining Rob for this month’s session.

Looking at these photos got me thinking…

McDonald’s isn’t really the story here. It’s a reflection of what has happened to the high street.

Less colour. Less character. Less reason to hang around.

Everything feels designed to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Has modern retail improved our town centres, or have we lost something along the way
