River Severn levels in Bewdley update, Sunday 23 August and a look at the long range weather.
Finally there is a small but useful change today. The Environment Agency gauge is at 0.21 m and rising, right at the bottom of its normal range. More importantly, the EA model now forecasts the river reaching about 0.28 m by 6am tomorrow.
Lets face it the river is fishing pretty poor at the moment in Bewdley. Areas with deeper water is doing better but the good news is it should start improving.
That forecast rise of roughly 7 cm isn't huge, but at these exceptionally low summer levels it could be enough to freshen the river and make conditions more comfortable for all the fish, not just barbel.
Upstream levels remain generally low/steady — Bridgnorth is 0.45 m LOW and Buildwas 0.38 m LOW.
Looking slightly further ahead is interesting: the Met Office expects conditions to become unsettled from Tuesday into midweek, with showers and a risk of heavy rain across the Shrewsbury and upper catchment region. If those showers hit the right parts of Wales and Shropshire, then we could be getting some better water levels. So keep your fingers crossed and pray for my rain! (Worse case scenario we will get Adam to start singing... only issue is we might get floods!)
