Trivia Tuesday ☘️ Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Do you know what this style of brooch is called – and how it was used in early Ireland and Scotland?

It’s a penannular brooch: a ring brooch with a gap and a rotating pin. People used them to fasten cloaks and shawls long before buttons or zips existed – you push the pin through the fabric and twist the ring so it locks everything in place.
Famous pieces like the Tara Brooch show how these brooches became status symbols as well as practical fasteners, made in precious metals and worn by high‑ranking people.

This one is my modern take in copper and sterling silver, designed for today’s knitwear, coats and shawls.
If you’d like to wear a little piece of Irish history, you can find this brooch here: https://www.empathycreations.co.uk/products/heart-copper-and-silver-brooch
Did you get it right?
Where would you wear it most – on a cosy shawl, a wool coat or perhaps a bag?

I’m Nikki, the person behind Empathy Creations: colourful jewellery to enhance your complexion and lift your mood, plus limited‑edition sterling silver pieces when you want something more individual.
My favourite place to be is at my bench in Belfast – wire‑wrapping, sawing, filing and polishing, turning plain metal into unique designs.
This February challenge has reminded me how much I enjoy sharing the stories, experiments and little rituals behind each piece, not just the polished photos.
If you’ve enjoyed this peek into my world, I’d love you to stick around for March – there’s more colour, new spiral designs and a website glow‑up on the way.

Day 27 of the and today’s theme is community.
For me, community looks like conversations over a market table – helping you pick colours, hearing who you’re gifting for, and watching people light up when they find “their” piece.
Thank you to everyone who stops by my stall, follows along online, or recommends Empathy Creations to a friend – you’re the reason I get to keep making.
If you’ve ever visited me at the market, attended a workshop or bought a piece online, I’d love it if you’d say hi in the comments and tell me where we met.

Day 25 of the and today’s theme is focus.
This year my focus is on improving my Empathy Creations website – adding more products, writing little colour‑and‑mood blogs, and keeping everything updated for new seasons and designs. Like many small businesses it’s a one‑woman show, so I’m learning the tech as I go and really appreciate your patience and support.
If you’ve spotted anything confusing or had any issues on the site, I’d be so grateful if you could let me know via the contact form.

Day 10 of the and today’s theme is presentation.
It takes me close to an hour to get this set–up just right – with every card, every box and every necklace in its place.
There are so many things to consider in presentation- height, eye level products, colours, branding and if products are easy to reach.
I’m still looking for ways to make this smoother (for both of us!), so if you’re a regular market goer I’d love to know – what catches your eye first when you walk past a stall like this? Or -if you are a craft vendor what easy solutions can you share?
