This time two years ago we got the keys to the shop front at Portview and the work began to make it our own. And we continue to improve and develop it little by little. It definitely didn't happen overnight (as much as I wanted it to 😂). No big fit out companies here.. just some creativity and our own little touch! 🪄

Meet Rachel 👋💚

After introducing the rest of the team, I thought I would reintroduce myself too!

Five years ago, Storybox started as a little idea from my spare bedroom during a very uncertain time. It definitely wasn’t the easiest path and it didn’t come with the stability I could have had elsewhere, but it gave me the chance to build something that aligned with what I care about most, creating positive impact, supporting small and ethical businesses, and hopefully bringing a few people with us as we grow.

One of the biggest parts of this job (aside from looking after our wonderful customers!) has been the relationships we’ve built with the incredible businesses behind the products we stock. I’ve always loved learning about the people, passions and stories behind each maker and social enterprise, and making sure we share those stories in a way that does them justice. The friendships that have come from starting this business have been one of the most special parts.

Behind the scenes, I’m usually working on what’s next, creating new gift boxes, planning workshops and events, putting together gifting proposals for corporate clients, supporting our suppliers and figuring out how we can keep growing in a way that feels right.

Storybox didn’t happen overnight. It’s taken five years of learning, adapting, researching, experimenting and slowly building something that feels sustainable and true to what we believe in. And we’ll continue to learn, adapt and grow (I have big plans for this little business!).

As I head into a very exciting new chapter personally, with Baby Storybox making an appearance all being well very soon (as they’ve already become known 😂), I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful team, friends and family around me helping Storybox continue to grow. It really does take a village.

There are lots of exciting things ahead, and I can’t wait to see where this little business goes next.

It's that time of year again. 💚

1 June marked the start of a new financial year for Storybox, so I wanted to take the time, as we do each year, to share the social impact created over the last year and across the four years since Storybox properly got going.

As a community interest company, we believe it's important to be open and transparent about the impact we create, where our money goes and the people and organisations we support.

It's also a good reminder for us as a small business. There are always those quieter days where resilience is tested and you question whether you're making enough progress. Taking the time to sit down and actually look at what has been achieved is a great reminder that those small steps really do add up.

We've always tried to stay true to our values and stick to our own lane, by finding creative ways to further support local small businesses, social enterprises and artists who care about people and planet. This past year our sales grew by 40%, and I'm incredibly grateful that more people are choosing to support that mission.

That doesn't mean we've got everything figured out. Far from it. Cashflow is still something we're constantly working on, margins are tight, and there are so many brilliant products we'd love to stock but simply can't. We've never chased the 'grow fast at all costs' mindset. We'd much rather grow steadily, do business in the right way and help a few more people along the way.

So here's a big look back at some of the impact you've helped make possible. Thank you to our amazing team and every customer, maker, corporate client and supporter who's been part of the Storybox story so far. 💚
