RAG RUGS Now back in stock!

Large cotton rag rugs from Rajasthan.  Hand made, undyed with fringe detail. Each one individual and unique.

Made from recycling off-cuts from the prolific textile trade in Rajasthan, these rugs are woven on handmade looms, allowing rural women to work from home and supplement their families income.

These are flat-weave rugs traditional to India and its neighbours, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Softer and more pliable  than most rugs, they are not only floor coverings, but used for bedding and throws too.

Hand wash then drip dry. Just £20.00 plus postage.

Traditional Indian Rag Rugs now back in stock!

Ethically sourced natural fibre (cotton) rag rugs hand made on handmade looms in rural Northern India. Each rug measures approximately 156cm x 90cm (5ft 11"x 2ft 9").

These are flat-weave rugs traditional to India and its neighbours Pakistan and Afghanistan. Softer and more pliable than most rugs, they are not only floor coverings, but used for bedding too.

Can be used as a floor rug, picnic blanket, furniture throw or wall hanging.

Each rug weighs 1.3 kilos. Hand wash is advised then drip dry.

Now selling in Barnstaple Pannier Market every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

And we are BACK! Natural Affinity India Trading Post first day's trading will be Tuesday 13th April, then trading on Wednesday's, Saturday's and Tuesday's thereafter.

Just a small selection of my colourful blank notebooks/journals which would make ideal year around gifts.

Made from recycled saris, decorated with 'cowrie' shells and featuring handmade 'khadda' paper which is carded cotton. Ideal as diaries, can be used for sketching also.

Each notebook is unique and handmade in Rajasthan, Northern India.  Sizes here are pocket -13.5cm x 10cm (£8) and 20cm x 13.5cm. (£12). More sizes and designs available. Prices exclude postage. UK Postage tracked and signed £4.00. Shipping Worldwide available.  Please message for price.

In this selection are, Buddha, Hanuman, Shiva, Ganesh, Saraswati and Shiva with his consort Parvati and children Ganesh and Kartikeya.

Lord Ganesha, most beloved Hindu God, with the elephant head, is the God of Beginnings. He is honoured at the start of rights and ceremonies and he clears obstacles and paves the way for us to move forward in life.

The son of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati, he is also known by many other names including Sumukha, Gajakarna and Vinayaka.

So how did the boy get his elephant head? Legend has it Parvati created him from turmeric (or earth) which she moulded into the shape of a boy and breathed life into him whilst Shiva was away.

Ganesha was guarding his mother one day whilst she bathed and Lord Shiva returned from his wanderings. Enraged at finding the boy who claimed to be Parvati's son, Shiva had his demons  ('the bhutaganas') attack the boy who fought back. Shiva stepped in and took the boy s head.

Only then did he find out from a distraught Parvati that he had killed their son. Repentant, he ordered a new head to be found for the boy, and the first being available was an elephant. Which is how Ganesh gained his new head.

As a reward for the courage the boy had shown in fighting Shiva's demons, Shiva made him the leader of the bhutaganas.
