Today our Book of the Week takes you on a culinary journey through Welsh history, traditions and customs: Traditional Welsh Home Cooking, by Annette Yates

With recipes for Anglesey Eggs, Leek Soup, Welsh Rarebit, Glamorgan Sausages, Cockle Pie and a whole host of meat and fish dishes, there are 65 classic recipes to choose from, which are explained simply enough that even I should be able to follow along in the kitchen - Dan will tell you that I am definitely not the cook in our household!

From Bara Brith to Teisen Berffro, Welsh Cakes to Pwdin Eryri, there are plenty of sweet teats and desserts to complete the tour of Traditional Welsh Home Cooking. Looking through the pictures as I’m typing this, is making me very hungry!

New to the shelves in the kiosk this week we have these undeniably cute Pinch Me tins from Halen Môn. Perfect for taking on picnics, or anytime when a pinch of salt would make all the difference - in fact, we keep one in the car for when at a drive-thru and the food inevitably needs a touch of seasoning!

Also perfect for visitors to Wales to sample Halen Môn before committing to buying larger quantities, seeing for themselves exactly why it is considered one of the best Sea Salts in the world. Perfection, in a tin.

There are very little words needed to describe this photo - we’ve had a fantastic delivery of beautiful gonks from Môn Clay! So many wonderful creations ready to find their forever homes, I’m always amazed by the incredible creativity shown every time the gonks come to enjoy their time on the pier.

Today I’d like to introduce you to two of the new flavours we are stocking from Blasus Welshcakes in collaboration with the Excalibur film:

*Cherries, Brandy & Dark Chocolate
*Chocolate & Toasted Almond

Excalibur is a multi-million pound fantasy feature film being created in Wales, by Wales. It is rooted in Welsh mythology and tells the original story of King Arthur, the Sword of Power, and the wizard-bard who taught him.

The partnership brings together Blasus’ passion for Welsh heritage, craft and food storytelling, alongside the cinematic creativity of this ambitious fantasy film.

The last delivery, I didn’t even get a chance to photograph them before they had been snapped up, so if you’re interested grab them whilst they’re here!

Calling all Horrible Histories fans - this week’s Book of the Week is especially for you!

Read all about it!

History’s most horrible headlines - the Wales edition: Horrible Histories Wales

Written by the inimitable Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown, this book is crammed full of sensational stories and foul facts. Great for keeping the young historians in your family entertained this summer, and a fun read even for the not so young among us!
