Southern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) 🦏
The second-largest land mammal, the Southern White Rhinoceros has a wide, square lip specialised for grazing on grass (different to the Black Rhino), as well as a muscular hump that supports its massive head. They can live up to 50 years! Once on the brink of extinction, thankfully intensive conservation means that they have grown in population from only 20 during the early 1900s, to over 11,000 today!
I painted this rhino using watercolours and added a few details with coloured pencil 😊
