I just adore this little vintage rocking chair hand painted in Frenchic Paint ❤️ Original Artisan Ballerina. It’s such a gorgeous vintage pink colour and I’ve added some hand painted roses too.

The perfect place to display one of my shabby handmade vintage swans. Each swan is hand sewn from vintage French linen and then dyed in a mixture of coffee,cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. They are then are hand painted with Frenchic Lazy Range Wedding Cake and finished with a frayed edge ribbon.

Both items are in the shop this weekend.

A productive rainy day in my studio yesterday painting this pretty cabinet for the shop. It’s not very old but with a bit of Frenchicing it’s looking like an antique.

I first applied a base coat of Grey Pebble Frenchic Original Artisan mixed with some baking powder to add texture and then added a second coat of Lazy Range Whistle. I then distressed it with a paint scraper and sandpaper. It’s now looking very French and shabby.

A new sign just painted for the shop. This Country Kitchen sign has been painted on an old drawer front and has the original handles still on it. I’ve used Original Artisan paints, Ivory Tower, Lady Grey and Panther with a clear wax finish. To get some texture in the paint I’ve added baking soda and cornstarch to the grey bottom layer and sanded the cream top layer back for some wonderful distressing. The letters and decoration are all hand painted.

It looks lovely above my Aga and is a perfect addition for any country kitchen.

Making more of our handmade greeting cards for the shop. I created my designs using vintage images and put them together in photoshop. The images are printed and then decorated by hand in my studio with vintage German glass glitter that gives them their wonderful sparkle. This is the original type of glitter used on old Victorian greeting cards that contains real silver. Over time the glitter will tarnish as silverware does giving them an antique appearance. I’d like to think they are special cards that recipients will keep or put in a frame. When I’m at antique fairs I’m always on the lookout for old prints and postcards imagining what they would look like made into a card.

A few more flower signs painted for the shop this weekend. Our is perfect for creating the shabby, worn and distressed backgrounds I love to stencil and paint the roses on.

I add some plaster of Paris and rock salt to the base coat and then sand the topcoat back. It’s totally unpredictable so you never know what you’re going to get but you can add more paint if it looks too rough. The Artisan original Frenchic paint is perfect for stencilling with.

It’s been hard getting new stock painted with the Easter holidays on and having to be in the shop everyday so I’m looking forward to next week when I can get into my studio and paint.

Buying from an independent instead of online allows you to check your colours and ask for advice. There are also hand painted items in the shop for a little inspiration.

Another project experimenting with . I wanted a worn shabby finish for these plaques so I made up my own salt wash paint using a mixture of lady grey original, some plaster of paris and rock salt. I just add what I think until the texture looks right but don’t make more than you need as it sets. Dab it on the wood plaque to get some texture, let it dry and then paint it with a coat of alfresco whistle. Let it dry and sand it with some rough sand paper to expose the paint underneath. I then have a go at it with a paint scraper. The shabbier the better as far as I’m concerned. To finish I waxed it with Frenchic defining wax.

The lovely floral additions have been made with the victoriana mould by IOD and some white air dry clay. I painted them with whistle and rubbed them with defining wax to get the lovely antique grey finish and match the wood plaque. Then glue them in place.

This is another finish I plan to include in my painting classes that I hope to start running in May on the farm. If you’re interested let me know and I’ll message you when I have some dates.

These plaques will be in the shop today as well as our Frenchic Paint and Easter decorations. We are open all Easter weekend but remember the Easter trail is on so parking will be busy. Just let them know you are coming to visit Vintage Angel.

Just a few days until the Easter Weekend. Have you put any decorations up? Here are a few photos of my summerhouse over the years . It’s a mixture of shabby chic and pastel colours that are just perfect for spring. Some of the handmade decorations are still available in the shop and the Peter Rabbit coat decoration makes a lovely addition to an Easter.cake.

A little experiment. I picked up these 2 vintage French plaques from an antique fair last week but didn’t like the smooth finish or dark colours. I wanted to add texture and lighten them up.

During the pandemic my husband panic bought loads of baking soda I recently found in the pantry that was out of date so I’ve found a way to make use of it. Just stir it into your Frenchic paint and it adds a wonderful grainy texture. I just added enough to get the texture I wanted. You can add more paint or a little water if it gets too thick. Only make up what you need as it won’t store.

For the plaques I applied a first coat of Original Lady Grey with quite a lot of baking soda to give it a lovely texture and dabbed it on. When dry I did another coat with Alfresco Whistle. I didn’t add as much baking soda to this layer.

I let them dry and then sanded back to let some of the darker lady grey show through. I really love the stone effect created and I’ve found a use for all that baking soda in my pantry.

They’re both in the shop now as well as a few other things I’ve been painting.

I’m still working on putting together some painting classes that will cover creative techniques with Frenchic paint that I will be running on the farm in the goat shed when the weather warms up.
