Quite a week, even if I say so myself.
Firstly we have G-man - Moonbase Alpha, Gez Varley, half of LFO, first album release on vinyl for his label Circuitry electronic. Not deviating from the sound for which he and his former partner Mark Bell (RIP) became synonymous this sparse, heavy on the bass floor crusher is a must have if you have any leanings at all to what came before. Beautifully packaged, and in the running for record of the year without a doubt. Be quick. One pressing run, limited numbers.
Secondly along comes Pigeon, this years bird of choice judging by early reviews. Electro afro synth, coupled with indie sounds from the 90’s gives you a debut worthy of your record collection, trust me, or don’t... Ltd press of 400 on blue vinyl
We’ve also got Kneecap - Fenian (Barry has nabbed one), Tori Amos - In time of Dragons, and Kacey Musgraves - Middle of Nowhere, nu-country, pressed as Rodeo Clown (? me neither) ltd edition exclusive to record shops. Laibach - Musick, a pop album they say, and Sugar’s new single on a neat wee 7” (taking one home, don’t tell Mrs Dead Cloud....) plus a bit of Buena Vista Social Club, goes well with a bit of sunshine.
On the repress front we’ve got a hip-hop holy grail Gap Mangione - Diana in the Autumn Wind, 1st repress, 58 years old, and a beautiful listen.
Anthony Szmierek - Service Staion at the End of the Universe, you’ve probably already got it, but it’s here for those that missed it.
Finally pop pickers we have represses of Billie Eilish, Don’t Smile at Me and When we Fall Asleep, labels have come up with a wizard wheeze to rebadge as first time on cloured vinyl international press, guess you gotta have it then.
Also been trying to get some lovely pre-loved funk/soul shop ready, hopefully the new in will be stacked by Saturday.
Later music lovers ✌️
