I have been so enjoying getting out and leading a few foraging walks over the last few months - the pictures above were from early May, at the wonderful .cic - we also cooked up and ate a glorious lunch together after gathering our plants.

I travelled with a small flock of local foragers to Lunan Bay for some coastal foraging fun, and explored more local haunts recently with a small private group.

May is so bountiful, lush and green - it has been a delight to be sharing it with so many great people

- such a treat in May isnt it? Those gorgeous blue hazes across woodland floors. But are they native or Spanish? I was asked the other day what type of bluebells grew in our area, and I really didn't know. Hoped all native, but wasn't sure.

Well, it seems we have both! These are from our garden - the flowers just coming out now

1 and 2. On the right, the native bluebell - slighter than the Spanish on the left - this is clearer in picture 2. The bell flowers hang on one side of the plant, unlike the Spanish where they are arranged around the stem. Of these two samples, the native has the stronger scent.

The Spanish bells are bigger, and they both have six petals. They both have a long thin bract where the flower stem leaves the main stem, but in these samples it is purple in the native, and chunkier and green in the Spanish

We have a few white and pink flowered ones as well dotted about, and I have read that it tends to be the Spanish ones that throw up that variant from time to time.

We are off to do a selective picking - gathering Spanish stems for a vase in the house, leaving the natives to do their thing in the garden.

Our wild garlic party spread was fabulous on Monday! We had, from top and clockwise

- fresh wild garlic scones
- quiche with fresh leaves, spoonfuls of hazel and garlic paste and generous sprinkling of dried fermented wild garlic
- spring salad, with totally white wild garlic leaves that we found, few flowered leek leaves, primrose, bittercress, ground elder, dandelion, golden saxifrage, with an elderberry vinegar dressing
- wild garlic butter
- hazelnut and wild garlic paste
- soft cheese with fresh wild garlic (excellent with the fresh scones)
- sourkraut of cabbage, carrot, Jerusalem artichokes and wild garlic

All delish after prepping lacto-fermented leaves and pickling flower buds

Thanks so much to for hosting and for the lovely folk that attended our first hot chocolate safari yesterday. This is the warm cosy tent all set up before folk arrived - fire on, weather raging outside (listen to that rain) and we were all cozy and hot chocolatey inside, connecting to those humid tropics where cocoa grows
