I make pyrography items, cards, TN lightning merchandise and other items. Hi. My name is Karla, but my friends often call me Athena.

All of my profit goes to the Facial Pain Research Foundation charity to find a cure for trigeminal neuralgia and other conditions; to hopefully get my life back! Age 18 I had an operation that went wrong and I ended up with a condition known as trigeminal neuralgia, often cited as the worst pain known to mankind. Happy 12th birthday to my beautiful Astra Carbonel. Getting older but still King of the Cats and defying all odds.

He answers to many names- Beastie, Bogbrush (thanks Grandma!), His Majesty, Lucifer... but to me he will always be the little kitten i rescued all those years ago.

And even demon cats are entitled to still love their teddy bears.

He may even forgive me for moving out soon. Eventually. On a good day.

Today's the day! ✨🌑☀️

This evening Europe will see its first total solar eclipse since 1999! Here in the UK we'll "only" see 90-95% coverage so not total darkness, but still pretty amazing to experience.

Did you know people have been telling stories about eclipses for thousands of years? Long before we understood the science, cultures all over the world saw them as something magical (or a little scary!)

A few of our favourites:
🐺 Norse legend blamed a giant wolf chasing down the sun.
🐉 In China, it was a dragon trying to eat it.
🔥 Korean folklore has fire dogs called Bulgae attempting to steal it away
❤️ Some stories say it's the sun and moon sneaking off for some "alone time" together 😏
⚔️ The Ancient Greeks saw them as a bad omen- often a sign of big change ahead, even royal deaths.

These days we may know the science behind it and can even predict it down to the minute... but none of that makes it any less magical.

Step outside this evening, watch the sky dim, feel the temperature drop, and you'll understand exactly why our ancestors were so in awe of it and also realise just how grateful we should be to our sun! ☀️

Happy owl awareness day!

Some of my newer followers may not remember that when I first started making cards I sold them all for the World Owl Trust. I have supported this charity since I was 11 and still do- I am so very much looking forward to being able to go back and see them as they build their new base in the Lake District.

I also have links with the Scottish Owl Centre up near Bathgate, Scotland and very much recommend them to anyone for a visit!

Happy birthday to my beautiful Flynn. It has been quite a year!

From tiny baby ten weeks early in an incubator to crawling and cruising around causing general mayhem.

This year has been everything I ever wished for and more.

I've done a few of these stools now and they are always a challenge. The next one is the one I am more nervous about though. Flynn's first birthday present... can anyone guess the design I am doing?

Flynn had his first trip to the zoo last week so here are some of his favourite animals. The giraffes won hence why we are now the proud owners of a large stuffed giraffe (note to self: do not take baby out through gift shop.)

I didn't have a sea lion box to include- maybe a future project?

I hope everyone is feeling better now the temperature is back to normal!

The difference in a year between the herb garden and rose garden! The lavender is particularly... enthusiastic this year!

We even have the first strawberries despite a slight waterlogging issue.
