Cariad Ceramics

Cariad Ceramics Due to a situation beyond my control I can no longer work as a ceramicist.

I appologies for any inconvience, I am keeping my page alive in the hope that I can oneday start again! Cariad Crafts Wales has evolved over the years and now I am concentrating on producing quality
hand built pottery items for the home, for that special gift and to decorate your garden. You
can't buy love but you can buy handmade, everyone knows that's nearly the same so thank you for supporting my craft.

Due to our house being rented to us illegally we have unfortunately had to suspend Cariad Ceramics for the foreseeable future, this has been a particularly traumatic time so apologies for not letting you all know sooner. I hope one day to be able to work with clay again but unfortunately that is not possible any time soon.

I think about things to create from clay every day and although I have had to rehome my kiln, I did force my husband to help pack up and create a storage space for the rest of my equipment, poor man, as everything pottery is heavy! I am going to be concentrating on my new found singing/songwriting career and if you’d like to follow me with that, please let me know in comments

For me this is an interesting and very helpful photo, placing an exact same glazed piece in front of a just built piece to show the shrinkage. Clay has a lot of water in between it’s molecules, as it dries ready for bisque firing it shrinks a little, then once it’s bisque fired it is roughly at its end size but then as this is stoneware it will shrink once more a little in the glaze firing as it is fired at 1240 degrees centigrade to become fully vitrified which means that it is non porous, very hygienic, robust and also very heat proof. Compared to earthenware which chips easily and is very porous where it is not glazed.

Ooohh look what I did, I’m afraid I am keeping this green man mask unless the right price is offered of course but I do have two others available which I will post later, the mugs I have created for my husband’s driving instructor business, Intensive Driving Courses Wales. I am very pleased with them, I create my own art work to then turn into texture stamps so I can personalise the pants off mugs!

All made from highly durable stoneware clay and each piece is hand built with love and care plus attention for its end user!

I’m back in the workshop finally for a bit, it’s go slow but I couldn’t stay away for more than, well it’s almost a year isn’t it?

One new Green man mask done! If you want one for Christmas then let me know now!! They take a while to make as each leaf and detail is hand sculpted and added meticulously to create each mask, no two are the same, picture of one I made earlier below too!

What to do? This beautiful creature has decided that the best place for her web it across the open doors of my kiln shed!! She has worked so hard to create it and I can’t bare the thought of disturbing her and ultimately breaking her web! I know she will swiftly create a new one but it’s not a nice thing to have to do!!

Update, I moved her by in-anchoring her web and successfully re anchoring it so as not to waste her precious time! Love spiders, they are amazing!!

Well they all survived the bisque firing so now on to glazing them all, this it the bit that’s going to take time as it’s so important to get right. Can’t wait to show you them when they have come to life.
