Rupture in Venice challenges the expectations of traditional bookstore.
Alexandre Sap’s Rupture Arts & Books store in Venice is part of a network that encourages the exchange of culture, conversation and community in a creative international cultural space.

After opening on the Giudecca waterfront, Rupture is moving to the historic center of Venice, in Santa Croce district, in the heart of the prestigious «Museum district», just steps from the Mocenigo Museum, the Prada Foundation, the Natural History Museum, the Valmont Foundation, the Ama Foundation, the Ca’ d’Oro Palace, the Berggruen Foundation, Ca’Pesaro, the Casa del Cinema, the Museum of Oriental Art.

Rupture is a new cultural engine for Venice: an experimental bookstore that rethinks what a
contemporary reading space can be.

Positioned between tradition and transformation, Rupture acts as a platform for independent publishing, a laboratory for new ideas, and a bridge between Venice and the world.

Rupture reopens in the Santa Croce neighborhood in Venice, to expand its offerings, its space, its catalog, and to launch its publishing house, its record label, and its podcast production studio.

Our mission is to celebrate books not as fixed objects, but as living encounters between cultures, disciplines, generations, and creative practices.

Located a stone’s throw from the Grand Canal at the San Stae Vaporetto station, on the street adjacent to the immense architectural masterpiece of the San Stae church, Rupture has decided to set up the shop in the heart of the museum and foundation district.

Through stunning imagery and original research, Divine Presence explores how painters such as Fra Angelico, Bellini, Crivelli, and Mantegna transformed marble depictions into powerful theological and spiritual devices during the Late Gothic and Early Renaissance periods.

More than a study of ornament, the book reveals how painted marble became a visual language capable of expressing creation, incarnation, resurrection, and divine presence itself — making the ineffable visible through pigment, texture, and stone.

Printed in Italy with luxurious finishes including fine book cloth, gilded edges, and high-quality paper, Divine Presence is conceived both as a scholarly work and as a timeless collectible object.

Ora Ïto’s new series of works establish a dialog based on the Modulor measurements, developed in the building’s unique architecture. Each piece is displayed in harmony and aligned according to the Modulor proportions. The overall result is enhanced by a palette of primary colors in accordance with the characteristic hues used by Le Corbusier.

“Grammatology, Part 3” combines formal expression, dialog with the rules of modern architecture and reseatch into language and signs.

Ora Ïto’s composite works, crafted from aluminum sheets on mineral resin supports, generate elementary geometric forms: lines, circles, squares, rectangles. The modernist purity of his pieces, combined with pop elements, evokes both material and digital interfaces, resulting in a unique and original visual universe—Ora Ïto’s Grammatology. This Greek term signifies the creation of an alphabet from a language system that transcends functional design rules, extending into the realm of art.

Pour ce projet, Marine Neuilly, qui publie régulièrement ses clichés Polaroid sous le label INITIALES M.N., a signé la série de photographies. Des instantanés doux et crus, saisis sur le vif, que Thomas Lélu ponctue de phrases drôles ou désarmantes, leur donnant une forme de poésie post-numérique.

SAVE THE DATE - MAY 8 - VENISE BIENNALE

The Beaux-Arts de Paris publishing house is one of the oldest of its kind. Originating from the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, founded in 1648 during the reign of Louis XIV, its initial purpose was to disseminate the Academy’s lectures. Nearly four centuries later, its mission is to share the art and history of the School and make them accessible. Today, the catalog boasts over 500 titles and grows each year with new additions. Beaux-Arts de Paris Éditions, the living memory of the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, documents its artistic activity: the creations of the artists, students, and professors who come to work there, its collections, its architectural heritage, and its exhibitions.

At this event, we will present « The Recipes of Fine Arts Artists, » a book of family recipes, inventions, concepts, aesthetics, and poetry. It’s a book of complex recipes and snacks. A book of travels, traditions, and childhood memories… It’s a portrait, in essence, of those who wrote its pages and created original works—paintings, drawings, sculptures, and writings—to accompany them.

Edited by chef Olivier Gougeon, the recipes are organized like the menu of a surprising banquet, from jellyfish fritters to moonlit rosebud desserts, from the world of onigiri to Chinese-style drunken crab, from papet au poireaux (a type of potato and leek stollen) to Dresden stollen.

Rejoignez notre aventure. Après avoir imaginé le réseau international de lieux culturels RUPTURE, j’ai décidé de regrouper mes actifs au sein d’une société holding baptisée « THE MEDITERRANEAN REPUBLIC OF BOOKS ». Cette structure soutiendra les trois premiers sites (Tanger, Marseille, Venise) et permettra (avec ceux qui veulent nous rejoindre) de relancer ou de créer chaque année de nouveaux pôles culturels dans les principaux ports méditerranéens, notamment Athènes, Beyrouth, Istanbul Alexandrie et Jaffa. Il y a dix ans, j’ai eu une idée un peu folle : essayer de sauver des librairies mythiques menacées de disparition. Face à notre société numérique dominée par les algorithmes et le défilement incessant d’images, j’ai décidé de revaloriser l’importance culturelle du livre et de « l’imprimé » en lui même, en créant un réseau hybride de boutiques et de maisons d’édition locales : Rupture.

Après Paris, j’ai choisi de m’étendre à travers la Méditerranée, m’appuyant sur l’histoire de cette région multiculturelle, carrefour des arts et de la philosophie.

Première étape : Marseille en 2022, avec Benoit Migneaux et Anne-Marie Gaultier nous avons fait renaître la librairie mythique Imbernon, au cœur de la Cité radieuse Le Corbusier. Puis, à Tanger, avec khalid tamer et mathias ohrel j’ai réinvesti la Librairie des Colonnes, qui avait été auparavant soutenue par Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé.

Récemment, nous avons ouvert avec Jean Paul Lubot, Tristan Lagarrigue, Stéphane de Corbière et Jean Moueix, une nouvelle librairie à Venise et nous prévoyons de nous étendre à Athènes, Beyrouth, Istanbul, Alexandrie et Jaffa.

Ce réseau de librairies modernes offre une plateforme pour des événements et des expositions, ouvrant d’innombrables opportunités aux artistes, aux commissaires d’exposition et aux marques de renouer avec les racines du paysage méditerranéen multiculturel. Telles des Tours de Babel modernes, les librairies Rupture sont des lieux de dialogue entre les arts et les communautés, mêlant différents domaines et langues.
