New Faroese Stamps – Mythical Creatures

Fafnir, once a man, let greed consume him and became a dragon guarding his treasure. Fenris Wolf, Loki’s fearsome son, grows ever stronger, destined to devour Odin at Ragnarök.

These legendary creatures capture the forces of nature and the darker sides of humanity – myths that still speak to us today.

🏚️ New Faroese Stamps: Abandoned Villages – Skarð 🇫🇴

High on the northern tip of Kunoy lay the small village of Skarð – isolated, resilient, and shaped by life at sea.

In 1913, tragedy struck when seven men were lost in a drowning accident. The loss was devastating, and by 1919 the village was abandoned.

Skarð is also the birthplace of the poet Símun av Skarði, author of the Faroese national anthem.

A stamp issue that honours memory, heritage, and the stories of vanished communities.

✈️ New Faroese Stamps: Famous Pilots Visiting the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴

Two pioneering aviators are honoured in this new issue.

🇩🇪 Wolfgang von Gronau flew from Europe to New York in 1930 via the Faroe Islands and Iceland – a historic achievement.
🇺🇸 Parker Cramer landed in Vágur in 1931 during his Atlantic attempt, which later ended tragically in a storm.

Since 1926, Faroese scouts have grown into a respected part of society, learning by doing, building friendship, responsibility, and a love of nature. Part of a worldwide movement with over 60 million members, scouting continues to inspire young people everywhere.

🇫🇴 With one historic victory and one draw, the journey comes to an end for the Faroe Islands Men’s Handball Team at the Men’s EHF EURO 2026.

🏅 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 – 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰

The Faroe Islands achieved 2nd place in the vote for Europe’s Most Beautiful Stamp 2024 in a very close contest, narrowly behind Germany in first place. The competition was organised by the philatelic magazine Deutsche Briefmarken R***e, with the winners selected by its readers.

The awarded souvenir sheet, designed by Heiðrik á Heygum, illustrates the four seasons and showcases Faroese nature and wildlife:
🌸 Spring – marsh marigold, oystercatcher, and lamb
☀️ Summer – meadow clover, gannet, and puffin
🍂 Autumn – mushrooms, autumn leaves, fulmar, and sheep
❄️ Winter – Northern Lights, Faroese goose, mountain hare, and snowflake
