DOME Upcycling Join us in reducing the amount of waste on the planet! We empower women from all corners of the world Welcome to Finland's first Upcycling Design Center!

The purpose of the Upcycling Design Center is to bring well-being to individuals by offering them fun, energizing and creative learning experiences based on design, handicraft and circular economy. The Upcycling Design Center aims to empower unemployed women, especially immigrant women, through meaningful activities and training that support their integration. The center’s activities are open to p

ublic. During opening hours visitors are welcome to visit the center in order to participate in the production or exchange ideas with the makers. The Upcycling Design Center has been developed by upcycling expert and creative entrepreneur Isabella Haas, who has over 20 years of experience in the field. We just completed a very successful upcycling design training and experience project with a group of unemployed immigrant women and are now looking for the next success stories. We will choose 5-10 women from all applicants for the free training. The Upcycling Design Center is located in one of Helsinki’s up and coming sustainable areas near Kalasatama metro station. The women are invited to work together with others and find solutions to the huge textile waste problem our society is facing. Products that they produce from discarded material can be sold at the Upcycyling Design Center’s own store. No need to worry about the level of Finnish or English language. They will have the opportunity to practice and improve their skills during the training.

“Love Story of Our Clothes - vaatteidemme rakkaustarina” is a collaborative community project on memories, repair and human connection. We care for our clothes, people and the planet.

Remember to bring your beloved clothes!

The workshops take place in different locations around Helsinki.

How it works:
1. “Kahvia ja pullaa” We meet, chat and enjoy.
2. We listen to each other’s stories and mend the clothes you bring.
3. Let us capture the story of your clothes on video and photo.

In interactive workshops, participants share their stories, learn how to repair and preserve their garments. We record their memories. The project celebrates cultural heritage, fosters human connection, and inspires people to care for their clothes and the planet.

Why it matters

Empower seniors from diverse cultural backgrounds in Helsinki through uplifting, multilingual storytelling, ensuring they are seen and heard.

Foster intergenerational connection by sharing stories and skills that preserve cultural heritage.

Promote circular fashion by encouraging emotional connection to clothing and practical ways to extend its life.

Build community through meaningful connections across ages and backgrounds.

Teach hands-on skills like visible mending, repair, and upcycling to both young and old.

“Love Story of our Clothes - Vaatteidemme rakkaustarina” -korjaustyöpaja on yhteisöprojekti liittyen muistoihin, korjaamiseen ja ihmissuhteisiin. Me välitämme vaatteistamme, ihmisistä ja planeetasta.

Ohjelma:
1. “Kahvia ja pullaa” tutustumista ja jutustelua
2. Kuunnellaan toistemme tarinoita
ja korjataan tuomiasi vaatteita
3. Jos haluat, ikuistamme vaatteidesi tarinan
kuvin ja videoin

We had a wonderful time during our mending workshop on Sat 10.1.2026 at the German Senior Residence in Munkkiniemi, Helsinki. Residents and visitors brought many treasured clothes and told lovely stories about them. We drank coffee and tea together and managed to mend many of the clothes during the workshop.
